Jet, Jed reminds me if Jedward!!

Rindercella · 28/09/2012 21:26

Congratulations to your sister!

Jed is cool; Jet is not

ignores all things Jedward in that statement

WhatWouldVegansDo · 28/09/2012 21:27

Oh for goodness sake! :)

Call him Jinx!!!

janie2 · 28/09/2012 21:28

Jed, I knew someone called Jed and he was really smart, handsome and all round good guy!

Also knew a wee lad called Jos - totally suited his name no idea what it might have been short (joseph maybe?) for but I've had a soft spot for the name since!

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay · 28/09/2012 21:29

Josiah, nn Jed

lighthousekeeping · 28/09/2012 21:29

He looks like an Eddie to me. Huge boy!!

What would Jet be short for though?

BabylonPI · 28/09/2012 21:32

Not Jed - I know a Jed, he's 3 and a nasty bully Angry

WhatWouldVegansDo · 28/09/2012 21:32

Or there's Chet. Could be short for Chester.

WhatWouldVegansDo · 28/09/2012 21:33

Jethro!

VoldemortsNipple · 28/09/2012 21:37

I know a Boy called Gem.
jet reminds me of a little kid in a baseball kit for some reason.
Jed reminds me of somebody sitting with a guitar getting stoned. Confused I'm sure I must have deeply buried memories, but for the life of me I couldn't tell you why.

WinklyFriedChicken · 28/09/2012 21:39

Neither!

Jet

Jed

iloveberries · 28/09/2012 21:43

She should get some sleep then think of some names which won't cause her son to be ridiculed for the rest of his life!

jaffacakehips · 28/09/2012 21:45

Neither.

I know a James nn Jazz. He's in his 50 and hot cool.

lighthousekeeping · 28/09/2012 21:51

Jeramiah is nice and could be either of those names, I think? Im sure she will give it awhile to get to know him, although if the girls have their way he will be Justin Bieber Smile

Jet is cool! Jed isn't imo - reminds me of Jedward.

nooka · 29/09/2012 06:35

Jet strikes me as the sort of name a teenager would choose because they thought it was cool. Jed is OK as a nn although the obvious name that comes to mind for the long form is Jedidiah which is fairly awful really.

nooka · 29/09/2012 06:38

More constructively, what about Jerome or Jeremy? Justin's not so bad Grin

Badgerina · 29/09/2012 12:36

A Jed is in bed,
And the bed of a Jed,
Is the softest of beds in the world,
It is said.

He makes it from pompoms,
He grows on his head,
He's sleeping right now,
On the softest of fluff,
Completely exhausted,
From growing the stuff...

(From Dr Seuss's Sleep Book)

Just to add:

I like Jet, AND Jed, AND Jem (To Kill a Mockingbird and the boy Gelfling from The Dark Crystal)

In Ursual Le Guin's "Wizard of Earthsea" novels, her wizard character is called Ged.
