Thoughts on Elizabeth

Hi, struggling to pick out girls names as we have a very short surname and it def rules out any 'colour' names such as Ruby, Scarlett etc. I really like the name Elizabeth-it was my grandmothers name (very inspirational lady). Husband and MIL do not like. However, he has yet to make any name suggestions.

I love it - is on my short list for dc2. My only reservation is that I'm not keen on many of the NNs (Liz, Beth, Ellie) that might develop out of it?

Elizabeth, like Catherine, makes a great name for the birth certificate but sometimes can seem a little too formal for day-to-day use. With that in mind, you could call her:

Liz

Your husband might prefer one of those nicknames instead. Elizabeth is a true classic and lends itself to so many versatile nicknames.

DD is a Libby, but if, as she gets older, she would prefer to be a Betty or a Bea or a Lizzy, or even an Elizabeth, she has that option.

Thanks, I think husband would like the nickname Libby. It's good to know other people like the name too .

It's a name we've considered too but neither of us like the nn Liz and that's what she'd probably end up as.

Love it, love Elspeth, Lillybet (Queen Mum called the Queen) Lizbeth. If you start her off with a nn it will stick.

I love it. If DS2 wasn't a girl, he was going to be Elizabeth, known as Libby.

She doesn't ....but she can't help interfering (I'm quite annoyed at husband letting it slip). Just when u hear such negativity you can't help but question.

Being biased I love it and called my DD it! We decided very early that she would be known as Lily (if it's good enough for her maj...!) but I love the options it gives her.

Don't spell it with an S.

It won't seem French and sophisticated, just a pointless complication.

Elizabeth in English is spelled with a Z, that is what people expect.

Love it, (biased!) but don't really like Liz or Lizzy as a nn so choose a nice one like Libby or Beth early on! Prefer it with a 'z' to an 's'

It's just a beautiful name. I am biased because I have one though! I would say choose your nickname early and let everyone know what you want it shortened to. My DD was supposed to be 'Betty' but in my newborn fog I forgot to tell anyone and now she gets the full 'Elizabeth' title from everyone!
