I like Jennet as a name - think I added it to a thread here about literature names, or ones you wouldn't be brave enough to use. I only know it from the mad screechy ghost in the Woman in Black, and I think that would put me off from using it. But, if you have another connection with it, use it!

firawla · 07/09/2012 22:24

I kinda like Jennet! It reminds me of Jannah(paradise) but kinda like people might say it in turkish..i think?! lol I don't know turkish but have some kinda vague memory of it being said like that

I knew someone called rainbow in my 2ndary school and she was quite posh! It's okay but u may get some Hmm looks from some. Scarlett is a much more "safer" choice as its way more common, but also nice. depends whether you want something 'different' or not really

Kimber - people may think its short for Kimberly???

MoonlightandRoses · 07/09/2012 22:30

Well, if you're sure about the 'blunt' bit - it may have been popular back in medaeval times, but, unfortunately the association for me now would be the offspring of a female donkey and a horse stallion.

How about maybe Jehanne instead?

pinkyp · 07/09/2012 22:33

Won't it get mistaken for Janet? Scarlett is very popular at the min, rainbow is a bit hippy. Out of them all I do like Jennet best but I'd prob tweak it to Jenner or jenneret

applepieinthesky · 07/09/2012 22:39

I thought it was Jeanette misspelled when I saw the thread title. Hmm.. It's ok I suppose.

I like Rainbow .

IvanaNap · 07/09/2012 23:13

nay.
Jenna is nice, but will constantly be heard as Gemma, no doubt.
Scarlett is the best of your OP.
Ruby?

Think of standing in a line of parents and your child's name being called out so they know you are there to pick them up.... "Rainbow, your mum's here" just doesn't roll off the tongue imo.

mathanxiety · 07/09/2012 23:48

It's better than Rainbow, Scarlett and Kimber even though it means a small saddle horse or a female donkey. Or the offspring thereof..

Rainbow and Kimber are beyond bad, and for the life of me I can't see the appeal of Scarlett.

Would you consider Genevieve?
Janette?
Janet?
Or Kim?
Raine?
Beau? Bo?

mathanxiety · 07/09/2012 23:49

Jehanne is lovely.

LizzieVerekerGold · 07/09/2012 23:52

I like Jennet. It's a very old English name, which appeals to me.

HiHowAreYou · 08/09/2012 08:08

I like Jennet too. I have heard of it before.
I don't like Scarlett, or Rainbow, and Kimber makes me think straight away of Kimba the White Lion.
Maybe white lions aren't a bad thing though actually? Hmm.

picnicbasketcase · 08/09/2012 08:11

Is it produced like rennet or with the emphasis on the net part? I'm not keen sorry. It's the name of a fairy in a James Herbert book I think.

JennetDevice · 08/09/2012 08:52

Jennet was a very popular name in Lancashire at the time of the Pendle Witch Trials. My namesake was a 9yr old girl who was the main witness at the trial of her mother and the other Pendle witches. Her testomy resulted in the death sentence for her mother and the other accused women. I wouldn`t name my child Jennet Sad

JennetDevice · 08/09/2012 09:03

*testimony

diddl · 08/09/2012 12:16

I like Jennet.
Also Like Dennet.

Don´t like Rainbow or Kimber, but like Scarlett.

SilkStalkings · 08/09/2012 19:13

Jennet instantly brings to mind thee Jenner Device story, too sad (and tempting fate haha)
Kimber sounds too like Simba from the lion king or a slopey bit of a road.

sashh · 09/09/2012 06:31

Jennet - I love it. Are you in Lancashire? It's the name of one of the Pendle witches.

bleedingheart · 09/09/2012 06:52

Nay, nay and thrice nay!
Sounds really try hard and having to spell and explain your name gets boring.

SavoyCabbage · 09/09/2012 06:55

Jennet sounds like how the Queen would say Janet.

BartletForTeamGB · 09/09/2012 18:01

No, sounds odd. What about Hester?

purplehouse · 09/09/2012 18:11

Scarlett

Jennet is frankly odd.

thisoldgirl · 09/09/2012 18:23

As others have said, a jennet is a female donkey, and is used liberally as a misogynist insult in Shakespeare.

Mumsnetters who have it as a family name probably acquired it before the 19th century, before spelling was standardised; it'll be a mis-spelt (to our modern sensibilities) Janet.

I do like Linnet if you're responding to the inflection rather than the meaning of the name.

BuntyPenfold · 09/09/2012 18:56

I thought of the witch trials. Sorry, but it's a no from me.

Linnet is sweet.

Lannie33 · 10/09/2012 03:46

Scarlett is really cute and sassy. I wouldn't be brave enough to use it myself but I like it.
I hate the other ones (sorry).
