I think genet cat. Then assume odd version of Janet.

Samantha1967 · 07/09/2012 18:11

Jennet sounds like that hormone that is used to digest food or maybe a milk protein or something, I think - bit sketchy on my biology - been a long time sorry!

PommePoire · 07/09/2012 18:17

Ten years ago I used to work with a lady called Jennet, at that time she in her was late thirties. She always introduced herself as 'Jen.' One day, another colleague who was called Jennie, asked her if Jen was short for Jennie, Jenny or Jennifer? Jen then she explained (with the air of one who has had to explain many 100s of times) that she was christened 'Jennet' but the only people who had ever addressed her as such, were her parents.

She loathed the name as she had to explain the spelling and origins to almost everyone she met. Plus, she was often told that she had misspelled her name on forms by people who assumed she was actually called Jeanette or Janet and just couldn't write her own name.

I am sorry, but I think you need to think of what it's like to live with a name that is unusual and whose spelling will seem like a corruption of other names, to those who aren't familiar with it. Kimber sounds like Kimba and makes me think of lions.

Scarlet is lovely though!

FiveHoursSleep · 07/09/2012 18:19

My mother's maiden name is Genet ( Jen nay) and DD1 has it as a second name. I like the way it sounds but not so much the way it's spelt.

Twonker · 07/09/2012 19:00

Kimber is a boy's name.

I don't like jennet. But I do like linnet.

TudorJess · 07/09/2012 19:07

Too similar to rennet.

I like Scarlett best of those four.

Rainbow should be a nice name but you'll get Bungle/Zippy jokes. If you like hippie names how about Skye, Willow, Clover, Juniper, Aurora?

HoratiaWinwood · 07/09/2012 19:10

I know a girl called Kimber - but only because it's her surname and it was that sort of school.

Jennet could be a Cornish hippy type. But it is a big name to carry off and that's not my naming style.

Really like the suggestion of Emrys upthread. I'm pretty sure Iris also means rainbow.

Fwiw a friend called her bump Rainbow throughout, and was under pressure from well-meaning friends to name the baby that. In the end I think she used it as a second middle name out of harm's way.

By the way, are you naming a child or a cat?

GobblersKnob · 07/09/2012 19:18

I like Jeanette, as it is the name of one of my oldest friends.

Scarlett is okay.

Kimber is odd.

No way can you call a child rainbow, are you famous?

JessePinkman · 07/09/2012 19:27

Jenna is better than Jennet.
Rainbow- people will think you were on drugs
Scarlett is OK
Kimber is like Wilbur, its like you've added the second syllable just for fun. Probably my favourite. Aw good luck on the baby, when you see her you will know what name suits her.

MrsJohnDeere · 07/09/2012 19:29

Nay

Badgerina · 07/09/2012 19:53

They're all awful. Sorry. Rainbow? Seriously?

soundingklaxon · 07/09/2012 20:20

Jennet is a family name here and we've used it. It is unusual, and we are forever spelling/ explaining it, but that's fine. It's not used as a first name and I like the thought of a family connection. Whatever works for you, really Wink- we've never had anyone saying OMG your name is awful Grin at least to my face!!

Mama1980 · 07/09/2012 20:22

Sorry but no

CaringMum28 · 07/09/2012 20:28

I like it, have a friend with the same name. Go for otGrin

Scarlett is lovely
I know someone called Rainbow and it does kind of suit her (Bow for short)
Kimber reminds me of Simba in the Lion King
Jennet - sounds like rennet sorry.

xmasevebundle · 07/09/2012 21:34

Jennet is a girl 16 and pregnant also on teen mom 2 (american series) shes a total bitch. I dont like it.

Scarlett it lovely-too popular for me to use.

Kimber sounds like kinder?

lucysnowe · 07/09/2012 21:39

I love Jennet fwiw but it may be just me :-)

MrClaypole · 07/09/2012 21:42

Rainbow - try hard hippy
Kimber - American made up name
Scarlett - Nice name!
Jennet - sounds made up and she would forever be spelling her name for others. There is a girl called Jenae (prn Jen-ay) at DS's nursery which I think sounds much nicer than Jennet.

MoonHare · 07/09/2012 21:47

Wasn't there a Jennet among the Pendle Witches?

I kind of like it. Though she would spend her life explaining that she's neither Janet nor Jeanette.

Rainbow is very 1968 San Francisco hippy. Nothing wrong with being a hippy but what if she grows up not to be?

Scarlett seems over represented among badly behaved girls in my sphere of experience.

Kimber seems very USA sounding and as others have said 'made up'.

Shesparkles · 07/09/2012 21:50

I can't get the Rocky Horror Show out of my head, with "dammit Jennet" instead of "damnit Janet"

Blush leaves thread

DisabilEightiesChick · 07/09/2012 21:51

Don't like any I'm afraid. Jean or Jeanette would be better.
