What do you think of the name Lushe as my baby daughter's name?

What do you think of the name Lushe (silent e) as my baby daughter's name? Plenty of people have the surname Lush so why not have it as a first name? I already have a daughter called Harlowe which caused uproar with the family but has been received well in nursery but I need something just as unusual for my new arrival due in January. This is my first post so please be nice to me...

Bless you OP. You have taken the ribbing very well (and have changed your mind about Lushe as well, which is a good thing Grin)

I went to school with a girl called Tuesday (apropos of fuck all, really).

I can only think Jem has never set foot in Bristol, Gloucester or Swindon. Grin

I know someone called Tuesday. Always wondered why her brother was called Simon, seemed like an odd combination for parents to choose. Turned out she was christened Sarah.

What about Merrily, I know the cutest little girl called Merrily.

NellyJob · 04/09/2012 17:08

Merrily is dreadful, it reminds me of the psychopath in Dirty Harry who hijacks the school bus and makes all the kids sing...
row row row your boat merrily down the stream,
merrily merrily merrily....
etc

SirBoobAlot · 04/09/2012 17:32

Merrily is ridiculous.

I know a Merryn, that's nice.

Badgerina · 04/09/2012 20:34

If you like names with silent 'e's at the end, how about one that has one in its proper spelling? I really like Blaise and Blythe. They'd both be lovely with Harlowe.

Secondsop · 05/09/2012 23:17

OP,I don't want to have to add to the chorus of disapproval, but please don't call your daughter Lushe.

Secondsop · 05/09/2012 23:31

Ah, now that I've read back properly I see you have changed your mind about Lushe. Good on you Jem for taking everyone's comments in such good spirits. I only have a couple of suggestions to add to those already mooted by others, for unusual names, on the basis that you seem to like strong, bold names rather than "pretty pretty" girly names:

  • Domino
  • Harper (yes, yes, I know, the Beckham baby)
  • Fleur (y has a feminine meaning but not that feminine a sound)
  • Narelle
  • Gaia
  • Isolde.
Lilka · 06/09/2012 15:05

I think Harlowe is a really nice name :) I know a little Harlow who lives near me, but not any others

I think January, Winter, Autumn, Harper, Jewel and Haven all go with Harlowe.

I also think at some point you have to tell your family to shut up about the name. She isn't their baby, so they don't get a say

TheresAlwaysTheOffSwitch · 03/01/2013 16:56

Call her maisonette. A homely name.
Or OMG, that's unusual.
Unusual! That's an unusual name.
Lux? Is that a soap? And sorry but lush even with an e as in Bucket, still has a hint of chav.
As for your brothers names, it's a bit late to ask now.
Hello everyone.

TheresAlwaysTheOffSwitch · 03/01/2013 17:01

I would always suggest going into a supermarket and practise shouting the name out loud whilst a friend watches others reactions. Some of these names might go well in the Coldplay household, but in the real world.
There is a really good Seinfeld episode where they are trying to name a child, 'Soda' etc.
