What do you think of the name Lushe as my baby daughter's name?

What do you think of the name Lushe (silent e) as my baby daughter's name? Plenty of people have the surname Lush so why not have it as a first name? I already have a daughter called Harlowe which caused uproar with the family but has been received well in nursery but I need something just as unusual for my new arrival due in January. This is my first post so please be nice to me...

NarkedRaspberry · 01/09/2012 18:03

Or Body Shop.

expatinscotland · 01/09/2012 18:04

I think it's ridiculous.

scottishmummy · 01/09/2012 18:07

if you like lush, introduce yourself informally lush
hi I'm lush, everyone just call me lush
see the reaction

susitwoshoes · 01/09/2012 20:16

I would spend rather more time choosing a name you and your DH like, and rather less time worrying if anyone else in the world has the same name. Just because it's unusual now doesn't mean it will stay so; if some celeb calls their child Harlowe they'll be ten a penny in Tesco's before you know it. Which, as it happens, doesn't matter a jot; after all, you're presumably not going to change a name should it become popular? So I wouldn't worry about it in the first place.

onlyaname · 01/09/2012 20:29

What about Hadley?

Ernest Hemingway's first wife's name, I really like it but DH does not.

Or Silver, I love Silver but it won't go with our surname.

BlueCanary · 01/09/2012 20:31

Love the name Piper. Goes great with Harlowe.

FWIW, where I live Lush means great/gorgeous/amazing as in 'Omg he is well lush!'. Still wouldn't use it though!

SleepyCaz · 01/09/2012 20:32

Parker is nice Smile

Can I ask why you are so desperate for your childs name not to be popular? What difference does it make if she knows another Hannah/Chloe/Evie?

My eldest is called Jack. Unbeknownst to DH and I, in the year he was born, it was spending it's ELEVENTH year as the number one boys name in the UK! I wouldn't have changed my mind if I'd known that. We know lots of Jack's, but it doesn't take away from ours IYSWIM.

scottishmummy · 01/09/2012 20:35

Parker makes me think nosey Parker
like Hadley though

zookeeper · 01/09/2012 20:35

Lushe? Horrible. And cruel.

Lushe · 01/09/2012 21:02

I love my name and have never met another Lushe, apart from all those harpies at the mumsnet meetup I attended. Go for it!

zookeeper · 01/09/2012 21:05

bet they were all horrified really, Lushe Smile

Hope you don't live in (or ever go to) Bristol.

Everything there is cue Westcountry accent: "GURT LUSH!"

Translation: "really nice"

Lushe · 01/09/2012 23:40

I have never had any problemes in Bristole.

jem08 · 01/09/2012 23:51

Lushe - How old r u roughly? Just age range if u prefer? How exactly is your name pronnounced?

I love Quinn!

What about Sabrina? Its on my list even though I don't think I will be allowed to use it if I have a girl. :(

Thumbwitch · 02/09/2012 00:08

jem - don't fall for it!! Lushe is a namechanger for fun. :)

I only know one Quinn, and he's a boy.

JessePinkman · 02/09/2012 00:17

I would say Elizabeth, Louise, Emma, Kate, Rebecca, Sarah.

Why give your dd a mad name? If she can have a normal name? Why be unique.

jem08 · 02/09/2012 00:30

Thumbwitch - never heard Quinn for a boy but actually think it suits both.

Jesse - Sorry dislike them all, I know horrible girls with each of those names and it just puts me off. I like unique and always have done, just how i am.

Jem, I had to laugh earlier, I posted on my status what I was eating (very rare for me to do it but it's something I can't normally have when I have kids around but they've all gone to the ILs so I was making most of it) and someone came back with "sounds lush" and I thought yep, that's the right use!

Name that was always a bully was Mark. The current Mark is lovely though Grin
