Paloma, Ivy or Ursula

Which do you like best?

Ursula. I adore that name.

FriedSprout · 26/08/2012 20:46

Ursula

StarryEyedMama · 26/08/2012 20:47

Ivy

Yama · 26/08/2012 20:49

Paloma
Ursula

Don't like Ivy.

BillyBollyBandy · 26/08/2012 20:52

OP really don't take opinions to heart - I have a Claudia and I have said that on a thread and got the "but it means disabled, I just couldn't use it" "awful name, means lame" comments. Who cares?

Secondly Ursula is a name now outside Disney films it isn't like she wants to call the kid Maleficent Grin

Ursula I like
Paloma I think is nice but a bit too current with Paloma Faith?
Ivy - not pretty at all where the other 2 are.

Din't like the others at all

winkle2 · 26/08/2012 22:40

Love Ursula!

It's my number 1 fave name.

toobreathless · 27/08/2012 15:33

How do you pronounce Paloma? I've never heard of it & initially thought of horses.

Ivy is OK, agree at risk of being faddy.

Ursula is not my thing, sorry.

kawaii · 27/08/2012 15:42

My mother tried to harry me into calling DD Ursula. It is a great name, a strong name. I didn't have the bottle really to call her it but if you do, go for it.

Paloma makes me think of pigeons.

Ivy - Poison Ivy, not keen at all.

mathanxiety · 27/08/2012 15:59

I think you are thinking of palomino?

Paloma would be Pah-LOW-ma.

mamakoukla · 27/08/2012 16:28

Hi Persephoneplum! I hope people's input has been useful. In the end go with your favourite. We had a shortlist and when DD was born we matched the name to her. It wasn't everybody's favourite and some friends outright poo-pooed the mix of first and second name. BUT we like it and she seems to fit her name well.

Have you come any closer to a decision or will you wait?

MamaBear17 · 27/08/2012 19:22

I think Ivy Ursula is a lovely name. I found it easier to pick between the two names we had for DD when I saw her for the first time x

persephoneplum · 28/08/2012 13:04

Thanks all - really, 99% of the feedback has been helpful :)

Yes I must admit this has been an extremely difficult pregnancy so far and I'm only 12 weeks. I'm hyper-sensitive, teary, sick, vomiting, covered in a dreadful rash which is driving me crackers and is ugly, and with summer approaching here in Australia, it's all a bit too much. Plus my boss just used my nana's name which was also a frontrunner, but will probably be middle now. I didn't list it here as it's a definite for being in there somewhere.

The Paloma Faith thing doesn't bother me - I only know of her because I saw her on the Graham Norton rerun. She's not famous here.

Ok so the frontrunner is Paloma... Paloma Audrey Pearl would be the first and middles.

Ivy has been scrapped. Ursula is in there along with:

Ines
Beatrice
Ingrid
Clara
Tabitha

Really sorry for being oversensitive. Things have been tough lately.
x

If I had to pick one, would say paloma.

Arabellasmella · 28/08/2012 14:14

Everyone's different. I'm not mad keen on any of thrm but I like Ursula best. I can't get to grips with Ivy at all.

mathanxiety · 28/08/2012 15:07

I love Ines, Beatrice and Clara.

Beatrice Audrey Pearl? I think it flows well..

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 28/08/2012 20:56

How do you pn Ines?

Beatrice, Clara and Tabitha are all gorgeous.

Beatrice Audrey Pearl
Clara Audrey Pearl
Tabitha Audrey Pearl

Beatrice 'flows' nicest but all are lovely.

Sossiges · 29/08/2012 00:44

In-niz.

Sossiges · 29/08/2012 00:50

Sorry Ee-NIZH was what I meant to say. It's late...

Clockless · 29/08/2012 02:08

Ursula

Napdamnyou · 29/08/2012 02:24

Paloma here too.

I know an Ivy who is called Poison Ivy by her brother.

:( so no to that, sorry.

MoelFammau · 29/08/2012 02:54

I love Ursula. Wanted it for DD but DH vetoed. Ushi for short, he said (he's German). I loved the idea of a little Ushi.... but still it was a no.

Go for it.

jaffacakehips · 29/08/2012 07:59

Sorry you've been having a tough time OP, hopefully things will pick up soon. Early stages of pregnancy are tough.

I love Paloma. Great name.

Ursula is a perfectly good name, just not to my taste. Not keen on Ivy, sounds a bit hard to me. Other names are also good, but not as good as PAP Grin

PeshwariNaan · 29/08/2012 09:12

Love Ivy.

Paloma is very Spanish - in my opinion it's hard to use names from other cultures unless you've got Spanish in your family.

Ursula = no.
