Jemima or Fenella?

I'm pregnant with DC2 and we are completely sorted if its a boy but having struggled with DD1's name, we are encountering the same problems now!

We both like Jemima and Fenella (the middle name would probably be Rose) but wondered what the MN consensus is!

Any thoughts welcome!

Jemima.

littlebluechair · 23/08/2012 19:32

I think Jemima is cute whilst Fenella is a bit, erm, horrid. I hate being rude about names but it is one of those names that makes me imagine very annoying parents!

firawla · 23/08/2012 19:33

jemima

PurpleAndPoppyWearer · 23/08/2012 19:35

Jemima.

Purely for the '70's kids TV references (Jemima was the lovely doll on Play School, Fenella was the nasty witch on Chorlton).

Caerlaverock · 23/08/2012 19:35

I love fenella

WithACherryOnTop · 23/08/2012 19:38

Jemima is lovely.Fenella is awful. It sounds like something you'd go to your doctor to have removed.

Caerlaverock · 23/08/2012 19:43

I knew a lovely fen so have a soft spot for the name

IawnCont · 23/08/2012 19:45

Jemima (as long as you don't live in Wales- Jemima Mop is a popular children's character in a book)
Fenella screams annoying to me (sorry all Fenellas)

MammaTonic · 23/08/2012 19:45

Jemima (Puddleduck).

Yup, NN sorted!

I love Fenella but when we considered it people on here hated it

Caerlaverock · 23/08/2012 19:47

People on here hating a name is a reason to use it

TidyDancer · 23/08/2012 19:50

Fenella is horrible.

Totally disagree with Caerlaverock, gauging opinions is important, even if they are harsh.

Jemima is pretty.

Psammead · 23/08/2012 19:52

Jemima is gorgeous Smile

I can't say Fenella without thinking of blocked noses, for some reason Confused although there is obviously nothing wrong with it.

clippityclop · 23/08/2012 19:52

Jemima, duck associations aside is OK Fenella, Fen (celtic?) quite pretty.

Anonymumous · 23/08/2012 19:53

Fenella is lovely and hardly ever used - I'd go for that personally!

Caerlaverock · 23/08/2012 19:53

Jemma is your typical mn pony club try hard name, fenella much nicer

Caerlaverock · 23/08/2012 19:54

Jemima not jemma

SilveryMoon · 23/08/2012 19:54

Jemima. I love that name.

Pumble · 23/08/2012 19:56

Thanks all so far. Harsh opinions welcome! Fenella seems to be quite a marmite name which we did think it might be!

Anonymumous · 23/08/2012 20:01

Nothing wrong with Marmite - it appeals to those of us with great taste! :D

Lovecat · 23/08/2012 20:07

Jemima is hideous - that doll was awful (although admittedly not as bad as Hamble (now there's a name!). Jemima makes me think of a snotty Sloane braying for champagne in Boujis.

I knew a lovely Fenella so I would go for that every time.

MadBusLady · 23/08/2012 20:07

Well I LOVE Fenella! Fenella Fielding was that foxy lady in Carry on Screaming.

Jemima says "puddleduck" and "boring dolly on Playschool" to me.

bigkidsdidit · 23/08/2012 20:08

Fenella makes me think of Jilly Cooper which is wonderful :) I like it!

littlebluechair · 23/08/2012 20:09

Basically OP you are damned by about 50% of MN whichever one you choose so go with either and you should be aware my opinion is of no consequence as I have given my own child a v dubious name!

Caerlaverock · 23/08/2012 20:10

Hurrah for the fenella Calvary
