for a girl? I am the only one never to have heard this name before?

Met a gorgeous baby Quinn today, and love the name. Firm contender if I have another girl. Is it Irish?

I've never heard it either.
It's pretty but sounds unfortunately like quim. Which you may or may not consider a problem.

TotallyEggFlipped · 16/08/2012 21:49

It's a bit too close to quim

Sophiesmummie · 16/08/2012 21:49

Boys name to me. Sounds very masculine and manly to me.

Nice alterntive to Finn.

But not at all feminine, sorry.

LoosingBattle · 16/08/2012 21:49

Hadn't heard of that either!

I guess it depends how your mind works.

ShowOfHands · 16/08/2012 21:50

Will always think of quim sadly.

tammytoby · 16/08/2012 21:51

My nephew's name. Definately a boys name to me.

(no idea what quim is either Blush)

lottiegarbanzo · 16/08/2012 21:51

There've been a few threads about it on here in the last year. Pendulum has dealt with one consistent issue. The other is disagreement about whether it's male or female. The female usage is thought to be American, more recent and to have been popularised by 'Glee'.

ilikesweetpeas · 16/08/2012 21:51

I know of two children called Quinn but both are boys - I like it but haven't thought of it ad a girls name

Devora · 16/08/2012 21:52

Sorry, I thought quim too. And if us fragrant MNetters are thinking it, you can bet it will crop up in the school playground..

poppydaisy · 16/08/2012 21:52

Lovely name for a boy. I know a 6 year old Quinn, he's lovely so I like the name.

LemonOCOGTurd · 16/08/2012 21:53

Cheerleader off Glee.

Quinn is a boys' name to me. The look and sound of it is so harsh/manly that I really don't like it for a girl. Yes, good alternative to the overused Finn.

drtachyon · 16/08/2012 21:58

Sounds masculine to me.

Never heard of quim. Is it rude?

TotallyEggFlipped · 16/08/2012 22:00

It's slang for vagina

evamummy · 16/08/2012 22:01

I know a boy called Quinn. Great name for a boy.

nickiminja · 16/08/2012 22:07

Quim. I had a book called 'Quim Topiary'.

SchrodingersMew · 16/08/2012 22:11

"Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman"

Quinn was her surname, Quinn is a very common surname.

LoosingBattle · 16/08/2012 22:14

Quinn is an Irish surname. Good name if you have Irish connections, or are American and like a bit o' Paddywhackery. Bad idea if you are neither, sorry.

numbertaker · 16/08/2012 22:22

@showofhands pmsl, gutter snipe minds unite.

LoosingBattle · 16/08/2012 22:22

We gave a very Irish O' surname so would maybe sound a bit much together anyway!
