Would be sister to Josephine (nn Josie).

And is it also too twee / little pretty girly?

Its a "nice" name. In that its inoffensive, nothing nasty can be said about it, but I wouldn't rave about it either.

Also wouldn't put Emily and Josie together.

simplesusan · 15/08/2012 11:30

It is nice enough.

holler · 15/08/2012 11:33

Really struggling to come up with a girl's name. Let's hope it's a boy :D

How about Emmeline? Its similar.

holler · 15/08/2012 11:42

Have just texted DH in excitement - I love it (is she the cow in magic roundabout?).
But not sure about rhyming of Josephine and Emmeline.

Emmeline sounds like a great alternative to Emily. I really like Emily but share the same concerns as you. How would you pronounce Emmeline?

DawnOfTheDee · 15/08/2012 11:46

Emily is nice but a bit 'meh' to me. Love Emmeline but do think the rhyming thing might be a problem - anything else on your shortlist?

NarcolepsyQueen · 15/08/2012 11:47

The cow in the magic roundabout was Ermantrude (sp?) wasn't it?

SirBoobAlot · 15/08/2012 11:47

Sorry from nickname I presumed you meant you used Josie most of the time!

HollyGoHeavily · 15/08/2012 11:48

I'm pretty sure the cow in the magic roundabout was called Ermintrude! which isn't all that pretty a name...

I'm not keen on Emmeline and Josephine together.....

holler · 15/08/2012 11:50

Elizabeth and Beatrice are on the shortlist (Betty and Bea). But see my waffling on the alliterative names thread about these!
DD is Josie most of the time, but not always.

with another dd called Josephine I think Emily will feel she drew the short straw..

Sorry yes I think it is too boring.

Sophiesmummie · 16/08/2012 10:25

I have to agree that Josephine is such a lovely, beautiful (and unerused) name that Emily is a little dull (and overused) in comparison.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 16/08/2012 11:33

Emily is never boring!!! I love my name :)

StrawberrytallCAKE · 16/08/2012 11:35

Have you heard that song 'running in the family' the lyrics are 'in the back seat of the car with Joseph and Emily' just thought I'd share.

CanoeSlalom · 16/08/2012 11:53

Emily is a lovely classic name and goes well with Josephine/Josie.

crocodilesmiles · 16/08/2012 13:32

I agree that Josephine is pretty and underused in comparison to Emily.

Emmeline has the positive association of Emmeline Pankhurst.

What about Emmelina? Or Evangeline?

crocodilesmiles · 16/08/2012 14:04

Although the name Emmelina doesn't seem to appear in the more recent statistics, a quick google shows it definitely been used throughtout history -

www.google.co.uk/#q=emmelina+born&hl=en&prmd=imvns&source=lnt&tbs=ctr:countryUK%7CcountryGB&cr=countryUK%7CcountryGB&sa=X&psj=1&ei=pu0sUPKbBci00QWyvoCIDQ&ved=0CEMQpwUoAQ&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=59125a52a671d2d0&biw=496&bih=237

Thought you might like to know, as you weren't sure if Emmeline and Josephine were too similar.

CanoeSlalom · 16/08/2012 14:20

How about Elodie or Eloise?

newby2 · 17/08/2012 02:00

I like my name too. It's formal and informal and quite dignified. It's certainly not more boring than any-one else's name!

pigletpower · 17/08/2012 11:46

Sorry this is random, but how about Juliet? I think it goes really well with Josephine. Both beautiful names and quite rarely used these days.

I think it's lovely & also think it goes well with Josie Grin

HiHowAreYou · 18/08/2012 17:48

I think Emily and Josephine go together really well.

Badgerina · 18/08/2012 18:17

I wouldn't have an Emmeline and a Josephine. It's just too silly and twee sounding.
