I think I like old fashioned names - anyone care to share what their grandmothers/great-grandmothers were called.

Hilda and Louisa

nenehooo · 14/08/2012 12:13

Mine were Mary Jane - and she was staunch Irish Catholic! Known as May - on the other side Edith Maude - known as Pat all her life and we only found out her real name when she died!
What is it with Grandmothers giving themselves different names?!

t0lk13n · 14/08/2012 12:13

Cecilia Agatha
Mary - called May for short as she was born in May!

ImpatientOne · 14/08/2012 12:18

Doris and Mary

Also have Great Aunts Mavis and Beryl.

DH's were Miranda and Effisia

HecateHarshPants · 14/08/2012 12:20

Patricia and Beryl

Great grandmas, erm, May (Mary) , Kathy (Catherine) and I don't know the other two.

ooma · 14/08/2012 12:21

Jessie/Susan
Lucy/Sarah

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/08/2012 12:21

Joyce and Irene. Granny was always called 'Joy', which is lovely.

Lots of lovely names on this thread.

Other old family names - Hester, Marie (said like 'marry' not like Marie, so I never knew it was the same name - the emphasis is on the first syllable not the second), Audrey and Constance.

I like Constance as a name but would never use it - too much potential for irony!

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 14/08/2012 12:24

I'm loving this thread!

MushroomBurger · 14/08/2012 12:25

Wow, amazing how many of these names are back in fashion now!
Mine: Helen (always Nell) and Deborah.
DH's: Cynthia and Daphne

I'd love to use any of them for a future DD, they are all just lovely.

Margaret and err Margaret

Mother is Margaret, I also have an Aunt Margaret (on the other side).

My middle name is Margaret.

Great Grannies were Margaret, Margaret, Margaret and Rose.

Dd is called Rose. A radical break with tradition there.
