I think I like old fashioned names - anyone care to share what their grandmothers/great-grandmothers were called.

Doris and Maria grandmothers. I got a few cousins called Maria as a result, no Doris though

Great grandmother names I knew Eldica (my father wanted to name me after her lol lucky escape!).
The other was Mary.

Elizabeth Maud and Gladys Eugenie.

My older sister was going to be named Elizabeth after my mum's mum. Luckily my mum realised in time that if she did, and then had another daughter, she would have to name that one after my Dad's mum - that would have been me....

Janet and Evelyn. Great grandmother was Elspeth. DH's grandmas were Winifred and Edith. I had great aunties called Bella and Annie (both Janet's sisters) and her sister in law was called Kitty. DD3 is Elizabeth - I wanted a nickname of Elsie but she's Betty instead! Love the older names!

Mum's mum is Rene, and her mum, my great granny, Eleanor, known as Ella.

Dad's mum was Margaret, known as Marge, I think.

My grandmothers are/were Barbara and Peggy (not short for Margaret, but a given name).

My father was adopted, and his birth mother was Rosalie.

My great-grandmothers (that I know of) were Bertha, Sarah and Ruth.

NoWayNoHow · 14/08/2012 20:02

I also had great aunts, and they were Kay, Dorothy, May and Rosemary.

Agnes (Maternal) and Winnifred - Winnie (Paternal).

Quite like Winnie as a name (but for the obvious poo connotations for a child), but have never met any other child named Agnes ...
