Strong name for a girl - PLEASE HELP, EXHAUSTED LISTS!

Hi all - driving myself and DH crazy. We've exhausted our baby names list and cannot find a girl's name we like.

The problem is our surname - most people seem to think of it as the royal surname... so without saying it, I think you can probs guess what I mean. Get asked if people should curtsy when they meet us which is SO FUNNY.

Which means every name I have liked, everyone has said is too pretentious. I like traditional, strong names though love Ivy and Madeleine but apparently, these are not nice.

Everyone's driving me crazy and whilst I know I can't let other people decide for me, I don't want people to hear DD's name and think we're pretentious twats.

Though am close to fucking everyone off and calling DD Elizabeth Mary Anne Blah Blah Every Royal Name You've Ever Heard Of, just because I'm sick of it ha!

Heeeelp!

Maybe you should go through the ONS list. Theres thousands of names.

I like Liberty. It normally is shortened to Lib/Libby by friends at school.

Dolallytats · 13/08/2012 21:49

I like Ivy too. I also like Violet, Harriet, Eleanor, Sophie/ia, Anabelle, Betty, Nora and Esme.

Love Caroline as someone mentioned above. Or how about Lauren? or Evelyn?

sashh · 14/08/2012 09:38

Why not use a foreign version, so Isabel rather than Elizabeth. Marie rather than Mary.

How about Otillie? Or Willow? amilie? My all time fave if I had another girl....Persephone... Pronounced per-sef-o-nee..... Penny for short, Greek goddess.

OlivesTree · 14/08/2012 09:51

Madeleine is a lovely name OP. It also doesn't appear in 2011 top 100 names (released yesterday) so not to popular at the moment. Perfect! Smile

I do like Alexandra too though. Beautiful and strong.

I love the name Catherine. My girls name choices were Catherine and Rebecca but I'll never get chance to use them now so you can have them Grin

Also really like the name Alice with your surname.

goingtoofast · 14/08/2012 10:01

Violet
Francesca
Penelope
Olivia
Matilda

I really wouldn't worry about nicknames, DD1's name can be shorted to all sorts of awful names but we don't use them just her beautiful full name.

noddyholder · 14/08/2012 10:02

Anna, Flora, Polly, Alice, Isobel all go nicely with your surname if i've understood correctly. My idea of strong names are simple ones like Ruth and Frances.

Complicated24 · 14/08/2012 19:32

Penelope or Georgina. Love both names.

besmirchedandbewildered · 14/08/2012 19:35

I think Ruth would sound great with your surname.

MiniTheMinx · 14/08/2012 20:53

Valerie
Octavia
Verity

I do hope you are going to let us know what you choose :)
