Rose and Fred

My daughter is nearly 2 and called Rose (Rosie)

Our next baby arrives in December and we wanted to call him Fred.

The unpleasant association didn't cross our minds until we shared the idea with a few friends but now it feels wrong to keep Fred as it stands as an option. So we are considering Wilfred.

Thoughts? Still too close to Fred? Too old fashioned?

Thanks everyone

Hmmm i'd say still too close tbh, sorry.

ColourMeWithChaos · 11/08/2012 22:19

It took me ages to work out what the unpleasant association was Blush

I like Wilfred!

secretlyahippy · 11/08/2012 22:19

Definately too close

Giraffeears · 11/08/2012 22:20

Sorry it was my first thought - too close.

AmandaLF · 11/08/2012 22:20

My first thought too before I opened the thread.

meditrina · 11/08/2012 22:20

If you nn Fred, then yes the association will still be just as strong. If he's going to be Wilf, then it's fine.

barnet · 11/08/2012 22:21

No don't use Fred, The title of the thread made me think it was a sick jokeSad

MrGeresHamster · 11/08/2012 22:22

Oh wow. No, very close. I opened the thread thinking it was about the murderers, then realised baby names. Eek.

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 11/08/2012 22:22

No, just no.
Wilfred is like a name for a weed.

Tom is nice.

ggirl · 11/08/2012 22:22

I have a friend whose children are Rosie and Fred(die). I had never even thought of the connotation before

GaryTankCommander · 11/08/2012 22:23

Seriously?

I wouldn't! Sad

RibenaHasLeftTheBuilding · 11/08/2012 22:23

Yes, Rose and Fred, first thought West.

Wilfred is nice with nickname Wilf though.

If your daughter is known as Rosie, would you think about Freddie. I don't think 'Rosie and Freddie' would be an obvious link to people.

MaryHansack · 11/08/2012 22:23

I too thought this thread was a sick joke.
Don't do it!

RibenaHasLeftTheBuilding · 11/08/2012 22:24

Cross post with Hickdickdock, who has backed up my theory on Rosie and Freddie (as opposed to Rose and Fred).

mamalovesmojitos · 11/08/2012 22:25

I wouldn't do it.

iloveACK · 11/08/2012 22:26

I immediately thought West - I'd say a definite no.

JollyHockeyStick · 11/08/2012 22:27

West was my first thought too.

vigglewiggle · 11/08/2012 22:27

Rose on its own - beautiful, Fred on its own - Lovely... but together = serial killers. Sorry.

pud1 · 11/08/2012 22:27

I also met a women who's children were called Rosie and Freddie and I never thought of the connection ( wondering if it's the same family)

WitchOfEndor · 11/08/2012 22:27

No, first thought was Rose and Fred West

puds11 · 11/08/2012 22:28

My first thought was definitely west.

RillaBlythe · 11/08/2012 22:32

Another one who thought this was a joke...

nickiminja · 11/08/2012 22:33

clicked on thread thinking this surely must be a hairy person who lives under a bridge thread. Don't do it.
