What are your opinions on Kal?

Surname is vv long, greek, 6 syllables (impossible basially for others to pronounce) and starts with a L (15 letters)

Any other options of short Boys names?
(as a nanny many are out as have many charges)

Def not - Luke, Max, Leo, Jack, Jake, Ari due to above

greek connection maybe but mainly English as has the worlds longest greek surname!

As an inveterate snob, I would steer clear of the maligned 'K' names.

I have never heard of Kal. Is it made up?

stickyLFDTfingers · 29/07/2012 15:06

two rather than one syllable, but I like Arlo.

BillyBollyBandy · 29/07/2012 15:07

There may be an assumption it is Cal - short for Callum? Nothing wrong with Callum btw !

SPsFanjoSponsorsTheOlympics · 29/07/2012 15:09

I like it.

toomuch2young · 29/07/2012 15:09

Kal is unusual. I like it tho sounds a nn for Callum. Like Kai.
This anti k nonsense is rubbish and doesnt occur in real life like on mn! Hasn't done Kate middleton any harm anyway!!

MommyVan · 29/07/2012 15:09

Sol/Saul
John
James
Alex
Will(iam)
Rory
Joe
Ben
Mark

I feel your pain!

toomuch2young · 29/07/2012 15:14

Plus its supermans kryptonite name - Kal El - what boy wouldn't think that was cool Grin

forevergreek · 29/07/2012 16:49

I dont understand the whole k bashing either? funnily enough im not keen on many k/c names but wondering if kal would work.

Hugh?
Not keen on Kal personally. It doesn't sound like a proper name to me.

whatsapussycatdoll · 29/07/2012 16:56

my DP likes this,
I knew a girl who little brother was called Cal, and it stood for cherished and loved.

I can't decide to be honest. I do like Kal el as in superman maybe just a little bit.

DontEatTheVolesKids · 29/07/2012 17:29

Everyone will misread it as Kai.

PenisVanLesbian · 29/07/2012 18:59

its not anti-K in general, usually its more anti sticking K's on names that should be a C.

usualsuspect · 29/07/2012 19:00

I don't get the K thing on MN.

bagelmonkey · 29/07/2012 19:02

Dan

Floggingmolly · 29/07/2012 19:13

I'd go with James as the first name...

exoticfruits · 29/07/2012 19:18

Ben, Mark, Tom, James, John, Adam.
I don't like Kal.

peanutMD · 29/07/2012 19:28

I know 3 Cal's all of which are shortened from Callum.

How about:
Evan
Kian
Gregory

AnnunziATTAGIRL · 29/07/2012 19:30

I like it, especially with the unusual surname.

janx · 29/07/2012 19:32

How about Hal?

Trills · 29/07/2012 19:33

Middle name El, of course Wink

Trills · 29/07/2012 19:33

I was kidding...

What if there is another Kal in the class, and the other is Kal D and he's Kal L?

forevergreek · 29/07/2012 19:35

James is a family name so don't want to use as first as too many james on my side

Thaddeus is family name on dh side, so same reason

middle names pretty much fixed due this

I also like Arlo, Aden, Alec, Orion, Raul

(name also has to be pronounceable in german!) - yes we like the easy way!!

OP posts:
Trills · 29/07/2012 19:36

Kal El is Superman's "real" name, btw.

strawberrypenguin · 29/07/2012 19:36

Makes me think of superman I'm afraid.
Um short boys names, Ben, Tim, Toby, Sean

forevergreek · 29/07/2012 19:37

ps. dh would like any name from guild of wars or game of thrones!
