Thinking of calling DS Silas. Do you know any? Do you like it? Or does it just mean Hollyoaks serial killer? Many thanks.

I know two, aged about 18 and 8.I personally don't like it much but if you do then that's what matters.

YouOldSlag · 09/07/2012 13:59

Always sounds like "Silage" to me.

squoosh · 09/07/2012 14:10

I really like it. Am unaware of the Hollyoaks connection as all right minded people will be Grin

weaselm4 · 09/07/2012 14:15

I know one, aged 6. I don't mind it, it's just his name. He's a lovely lad smile.

I didn't know the Hollyoaks connection. The only ones I know of are Silas Marner (George Eliot) and St Paul's missionary buddy in the Bible.

weaselm4 · 09/07/2012 14:15

meant Smile

Littlecherublegs · 09/07/2012 14:29

I know of one who is about 30 now.

Never heard of the Hollyoaks connection either.

I really like it (and it would be on our shortlist if I knew DH wouldnt veto it straight away!!)

controlpantsandgladrags · 09/07/2012 14:42

I know one who is 2.

ValiumQueen · 09/07/2012 15:15

So so far we have serial killer and silage, missionary and book character (clearly I am not well educated as I have no idea who he is) and a couple of likes. I want a name that is a bit different. I do not watch Hollyoaks by the way.

Thank you for the feedback.

My mum likes it, which put me off actually!

I like it. Nice old Biblical name.

VivaLeBeaver · 09/07/2012 15:46

I like it, reminds me of my childhood

ValiumQueen · 09/07/2012 15:52

Aww viva that linkey has just sold it to me

Generally positive feedback so far. I am guessing there are not that many around.

I had forgotten about it being biblical... DD1 has a biblical name.

Wow, I remember that programme!

ValiumQueen · 09/07/2012 16:01

Not in top 200 UK names, means Forrest Dweller.

VivaLeBeaver · 09/07/2012 16:05

That programme was fab. I don't know anyone called Silas.

celebmum · 09/07/2012 16:37

I quite like it actually.. Smile but isn't there a baddie in a book called Silas? A monk in the Da Vinci Code? I may be a million miles wrong here tho!!! Blush

FootballFriendSays · 09/07/2012 16:40

Not keen, close to Silo. Would be called Sy?

ValiumQueen · 09/07/2012 18:09

It was the Da Vinci Code character that gave me the idea, along with the troubled teen on Weeds!

I do not like the Si shortening, but this is gonna happen with most names. Could be worse. Better than Lassie.

Also evil killer in that US series Heroes I think

ValiumQueen · 09/07/2012 19:09

There is a clear pattern emerging Grin clearly a bad boy name! I like it more and more!

I've never met any, but it is a name I really, really dislike. I think it has a really unpleasant sound and looks unpleasant on the page too. Sorry.

PeazlyPops · 09/07/2012 19:21

Sorry, it reminds me of silage too!

birdofthenorth · 09/07/2012 19:24

First thought was indeed mad, strangling, daughter-killing character in a low-rent soap. That reference will fade pretty quickly though, & I doubt Hollyoaks has many viewers these days hides in shame at outing herself as one!

I actually think it's a great name. Ditto Amos, Simeon, Jonas, IMHO.

Beamur · 09/07/2012 19:26

I don't know any in RL, but it makes me think of dark brooding moody types. I like it.

MerryMarigold · 09/07/2012 19:27

I know one who is 2. His brother is Linus, which I prefer. When he was first born I didn't like it, reminded me of Silas Marner, but the one I know is supercute so now I think of him!

AdventuresWithVoles · 09/07/2012 19:29

I don't think I've ever met any. Lovely name. :)
