What does everyone think of these three names for DD due November. Not all together, but as a first name.

My favourite is Piper. Interested to hear thoughts!

Really really don't want to sound negative, but...... Piper and Tansy are the names of my friend's Jack Russells... (sorry!)

StrawberryMojito · 04/07/2012 22:46

Really not keen but at a push I'd pick Piper.

dyzzidi · 04/07/2012 22:48

I love piper! It really didn't go with our surname so we didn't use it but it's still my favourite name!

JollyGoodFun · 04/07/2012 22:48

Piper is someone who plays bagpipes.

Failing that it's an oil rig that was involved in a major disaster.

Tansy is the Scottish name for a flower known.as Ragwort in England.

Betty is okay.

CalamityJones · 04/07/2012 22:49

I like Betty lots. I also love Nancy (i know, it's not on your list). Piper is a bit too American for me and not terribly keen on Tansy.

MoonlightandRoses · 04/07/2012 22:50

I'd go with Tansy (knew a v.nice, human, one growing up).
Also, with the trend for giving animals 'human' names, (the only Piper & Betty I have met were horses for example), that cross-over shouldn't be a concern if you really like a name.

Oh, and congratulations!

Susieloo · 04/07/2012 22:52

Piper was my number one name for a girl and then I found out it was unisex which put me off for some reason, I have a soft spot for tansy because my nans dog was called tansy and she was very sweet Smile

winkle2 · 04/07/2012 22:56

If I had to choose it would be Piper

drjohnsonscat · 04/07/2012 22:58

Like them all. Didn't Topsy and Tim have a sister called Tansy? That's not a plus or a minus, it's just a remembering. I think Tansy is especially nice actually.

WhereMyMilk · 04/07/2012 22:59

Love love Piper-you a fan of Charmed?

Springforward · 04/07/2012 23:02

Betty, short for Elizabeth though.

amck5700 · 04/07/2012 23:11

Of the 3 i'd go for tansy. We have a very small school and we still happen to have two Pipers. 1 boy and 1 girl. I don't hate Betty, but I prefer Elizabeth and you could use Betty for everyday use :)

jaffacakehips · 04/07/2012 23:11

At a push, Betty with Elizabeth for BC. I wouldn't call her just Betty.

What about Tanith nn Tany?

My DM's Siamese cat was called Tansy - I think of it as a pet's name.

Piper makes me think of footballers wives copying film stars - in the style of Posh Beckham with Harper. I have never really like the idea of surnames as first names for girls - Piper, Harper, Taylor, Mackenzie, etc. It works well for boys, though.

Betty puts me in mind of TV barmaids. Why not call you DD Elizabeth and see what suits her as her personality develops - Liz, Lizzy, Betty, Beth, Lizbet, Eliza, etc.

Congratulations, btw.

DottieRose · 04/07/2012 23:45

Betty is gorgeous the other two are awful!!

ChoccyJules · 04/07/2012 23:49

I prefer Piper out of the three :-)

akaemmafrost · 04/07/2012 23:50

Betty from Elizabeth.

Wobblypig · 04/07/2012 23:54

Please don't have piper I trying to keep it uncommon. Betty is cool

Odmedod · 05/07/2012 00:00

Piper is great!

VolAuVent · 05/07/2012 00:06

Betty (short for Elizabeth)

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 05/07/2012 00:10

Never mind the naysayers! Piper is lovely.

mathanxiety · 05/07/2012 06:03

Betty is the best of the three imo.

MrClaypole · 05/07/2012 06:23

Like Tansy the best.

Betty is just too old lady for me and Piper is too American/surnamey!

baskingseals · 05/07/2012 07:08

like Betty, but prefer Betsy.
