What does everyone think of these three names for DD due November. Not all together, but as a first name.

My favourite is Piper. Interested to hear thoughts!

I don't really like piper. It sounds a bit "fashionable" iykwim and it also sounds like a boys name.

Tansy sounds a bit made up

Sorry Blush

I like Betty though. Very much.

MacMac123 · 05/07/2012 07:14

Have never seen charmed, just saw piper on a name website and thought it was great! Didnt realise it was American, it's actual origin seems to be old English which I thought made it even greater. I like funky names (my friends kid is called Roxy) so thought piper would be a good alternative in that category.
Anyway, glad to be getting better feedback thank my other top name Lilibet ( not short for Elizabeth just as it is) which went down like a lead balloon on here!
I think i prefer Piper to Lilibet anyway Smile

Piper's quite cool, bit unisex but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Betty is fabulous. Much better than Lillibet Smile

Tansy sounds like a Zingzilla! Are you familiar? If this is DC1 you soon will be! I think they are called Zack, Pansy, Drum & Tang, so Tansy sounds like two of them have bred! They are blue singing monkey-humans... go Google!

kickingKcurlyC · 05/07/2012 07:33

I like Tansy actually.

RantyMcRantpants · 05/07/2012 07:45

I love Piper and have a male Piper myself, it is an old family name, from the female line. He is the only Piper in the country born in his year, there were 3 girls.

You are right that it is an old English name and I love, love, love it.

doughnutty · 05/07/2012 07:56

Love Piper
Hate Tansy
Like Betty but as a nn. I'm very much for 'proper' names on bc even if it's never used

Worth noting that Betty might also become 'beh'y' if you live/move somewhere that t's aren't pronounced/enunciated. I'm in Scotland with a Natalie and even though it annoys me, if I spend too much time round my family, even I start saying Na'alie!

exoticfruits · 05/07/2012 08:00

I hate Piper -but it could suit a pet.
Betty is the best-as long as she has Elizabeth on the birth certificate.

SandyBottoms · 05/07/2012 09:14

Piper is really cool. I can picture an adult Piper. Tansy is a bit 'petty' but still lovely. Betty makes me think of Apple Betty the pudding.

MacMac123 · 05/07/2012 09:32

I thought tansy might be a Zing Zilla!!
Yes - am indeed familiar!

DH has rejected Piper outright. How can I bring him round?!

I love Tansy, like Piper and really dislike Betty

SundaeGirl · 05/07/2012 09:35

He's seen sense!

Go for Tansy, it's pretty.

loopydoo · 05/07/2012 09:42

I like Betsy but Betty is okay as a nn for Elizabeth.

I had never heard of Tansy until I met a toddler called it the other week. I thought it was a made up name (not that that matters).

Piper is nice.

what about Kitty?

RantyMcRantpants · 05/07/2012 10:46

Tell him that your DD will be unique and there will never be another in any school called the same name and she will never get confused with all the other sound a like names there are at the moment.

Also it is a strong name and apparently women who have names that could be mistaken for male names get on better in business.

squoosh · 05/07/2012 11:10

Piper is awful, really, really awful. Sorry.

I think Betty and Tansy are equally great.

RantyMcRantpants · 05/07/2012 11:20

Thanks Squoosh

Lannie33 · 05/07/2012 15:01

Piper!! 100%
Tansy is OK too. Betty too old lady for me too, but could be cute with the whole old lady name trend coming back in.

WithACherryOnTop · 05/07/2012 15:19

Betty is ugly. Piper is ok.I love Tansy.

LadyHarrietdeSpook · 05/07/2012 15:24

I have a friend (Yank I'm afraid) with a daughter called Piper.

Our first schnauzer was also called Piper.

I do like it though. The others aren't for me really, sorry.

lisianthus · 05/07/2012 17:39

Not keen on Piper, makes methink of Sarah Palin naming her daughter Piper after the family plane. Betty is my favourite (although I would call her Elizabeth and have Betty as the nn). Tansy is also lovely.

I love Betty, and also Betsy.
I really like Tansy too, but not keen on Piper I'm afraid.
Enjoy making your decision!

Purplecatti · 08/07/2012 01:10

Don't bring OH round, he will bring himself round if it is the right name.

I had my heart set on a name and husband dismissed it outright. I spent the next few weeks suggesting completely ridiculous and unsuitable names. Husband came home from the pub after chatting with friends who thought the name I picked was lovely, and out of the three we have short-listed it's the favourite and he's completely changed his mind about it.

btw, I think Tansy is the nicest. Piper sounds a bit like a cheerleader from an American series. Which is a shame as looking at it written on it's own it looks nice.

lisaro · 08/07/2012 01:56

Piper is just plain ridiculous and Tansy reminds me of the play, Trafford Tansy.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 08/07/2012 03:17

OP- show him a picture of piper perabo maybe?
