Imogen - love it or hate and do you know any?

Still undecided how I feel about this name, DH has put it as one of his favs. What sort of nicknames might she end up with?

It is a name that has grown on me. I had a tutor named Imogen (Immy) 10 years-or-so ago and I hated it back then. However, it has become one of my favourite names. It's very strong, not too popular ad suits a baby, little girl, teenager and grown woman. Immy/Immi is just gorgeous.

Fwiw, the Immy I knew was a tutor at my art school. Very cool, retro-1960s dress sense. I see her about now with a child of he own and she looks much the same :)

I know one of 5, one of 10, and one adult, who pronounces her name with a hard g.

I think it's a beautiful name, classic and timeless.

Imogen is obviously having a massive resurgence. Now know 3 Imogens ranging from aged 2 down.

I know three. All gorgeous little girls.

I'm ambivalent towards it. Lot of baby Imogens around though.

I have a 4 year old Imogen. Generally always called her immy, sometimes imsy, however she has taken it upon herself to tell us she only wants to be called Imogen and doesnt like her nn's . I was very unsure of her name first of all, but dh loved it, it was 2 days before christmas so I was feeling happy and generous and went with it. Im so glad I did, I love it and it suits her down to the ground. We're yet to meet another one.

Oh, and the 30 yr old is also known as Mogs. Don't think that as a nick name has been mentioned?

I like it alot! Don't know any Imogen's though, I think actually it's an underused name! To me it's a bit different, but not 'wierd' different iykwim?

My niece is Imogen. She is called immy. My DF (her grandfather) calls her jimmy which has been shortened to jim

I love it (but then one of my DDs is called Imogen)! We call her Immy, Imo, Immers, Imse as nicknames, but mainly she is just Imogen ( Im-oh-jun). Like the idea of calling her Ginny - my 8yr old is Harry Potter obsessed and she'd like a sister called Ginny! I think it is a strong name, girly but not frilly. It is a French name too - Imogene (ee-moh-shjen)

I know one - she is Ims for short.

I really like it; feminine without being girly.

We have one (2.6) and my DH calls her Mog. I call her Imo, my parents like Immy. I met a baby Imogen last week and have heard a few called in our local park but there are none in her nursery and none of my baby group friends have one/know one. It's definitely increasing in popularity am sure it was ranked in the early 30's for name popularity in the ONS list of 2010, think 2011 is due out soon.

The 12 yo one I know is called Immy by her friends and Imogen/Immy/ Imms by her parents

I too have an Idgie after Idgie Threadgood! It's lovely to see a couple of others with such good taste too!

Temex - I remember watching the film as a student in the 80s, little thinking I'd have my own little Idgie one day. My Idge is now 9 and this thread has inspired me to rent Fried Green Tomatoes so she can see her namesake.
