What is you're opinion of the name Philippa? Love, hate, over used?

Thanks

Love it. Not used at all where I live but might be a bit different in the UK Wink.

mayanna123 · 02/07/2012 22:56

I like it. Makes a refreshing change from all the cutesy names.

Hassled · 02/07/2012 22:58

Not over used - I know none younger than say 30. And lovely - I really like it.

LadyWidmerpool · 02/07/2012 23:01

Love it.

puds11 · 02/07/2012 23:07

I'm younger than 30. I love it.

PissyDust · 02/07/2012 23:10

I don't like it because it is normally shortened to pip which is to short.

Springforward · 02/07/2012 23:12

Lovely name.

pipsqueak · 02/07/2012 23:14

dd2 is a philippa but known as pippa. she is the only one in her school . still love the name and she gets lots of compliments on it

PipJoy · 03/07/2012 08:48

I am Philippa, and I loathed it as a child, also couldnt stand Pippa, Pip has always worked very well for me and don't think it's too short! Am still Pip but also Philippa now, have loved it since my mid twenties and now just as often introduce myself with the full version as the short one. Go for it - it's a top class name! And I'm not posh either, or remotely horsey (which is how I used to think it sounded when I was a kid, but it doesnt have to scream gymkhana if the kid involved is not that type)

Theas18 · 03/07/2012 08:58

great. My sisters name. She's now calling herself Pippa. Falls into all the rules for me- you can do what you like and it still sounds right- from a horsey Debutante, to a high court judge, surgeon, model , business woman or mechanic - Philippa Pip/Pippa works well.

babyheaves · 03/07/2012 09:03

Lovely name. Mostly gets shortened to Pippa or Phil, so lots of options there.

bobs · 03/07/2012 09:06

DD1, now 18 is a Philippa - called Pippa by all and i also call her Phil. She's never said she doesn't like it and she's the only one in her year with the name. I personally wouldn't change it if i had the choice again

VolAuVent · 03/07/2012 09:08

Lovely name.

lilbreeze · 03/07/2012 09:23

Popular in my area, always shortened to Pippa.

ceeveebee · 03/07/2012 09:39

I like it. I know a 5 month old named Phillippa.

squoosh · 03/07/2012 12:09

Strongly dislike.

birdofthenorth · 03/07/2012 12:24

Not over-used yet at all but pressumeably going to rocket due to Pippa Middleton. Nice name though.

annelid · 03/07/2012 14:16

Thankyou for your replies!!

It's my name and I strongly agree with everything Pipjoy says,I love it now but did find it a bit of a pain as a small child because of the Ph

Yorky · 03/07/2012 17:31

DD2 is 10wks old and I have had nothing but positive comments on her name, despite my being worried about people associating it with the Middletons (especially as her middle name is that of my favourite aunt, and totally not to do with THAT Pippa's sister! Blush)

shockers · 03/07/2012 17:49

It's my name and I love it... always have Smile.

minipie · 03/07/2012 19:38

Really like Pippa and Pip but really dislike Philippa...

octaviarose · 03/07/2012 19:43

I love it and if it weren't for people saying oh after the Middleton girl, I would use it. Grrr to her!

PercyFilth · 03/07/2012 20:12

Doesn't Pippa mean blow-job in Greek, or something? Sure I've read that somewhere.

PoppyWearer · 03/07/2012 20:15

Correct, Percy.
