Which Name do you Hate Most?

I hate the name Jane; I'm not saying it's the ugliest name in the world, by a long way (that's probably Griselda), but because of associations. Firstly, it was the name of the most horrible bully at my secondary school; and now, also, there's the Inbetweeners movie, in which the gorgeous Jay gets paired up with a fat plain Jane who is not cute enough for him!

Eugine. even.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 30/06/2012 10:13

I quite like the letter u.

It looks like it might rock from side to side in a satisfying manner.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 30/06/2012 10:48

In all seriousness though, how can anyone possibly hate a name?

What other things do the haterz hate? Please do tell; I'm interested. Not to mention bemused and a bit worried.

PenisVanLesbian · 30/06/2012 10:49

Eugene, even.

septembersunshine · 30/06/2012 11:54

I've never met a nice Lydia, they always seem to be really bitchy and self-centred. Ugh I hate that name now!

iheartmycat · 30/06/2012 14:37

Agatha, Persephone, all the Milly-Tilly-Silly names around at the moment, Heather (cos I knew a horrible one), Maude (sounds like mud)
Bernard, Ptolemy, Cosmo, Sholto, Kaiden/Jayden/Kian/Coby/Tyler, Henry & Archie (tho bizarrely i LOVE Alfie!)

Any name that should belong to a cow/cat/dog.

winkle2 · 30/06/2012 15:46

Wet names like Cuthbert and Percy.

TouTou · 30/06/2012 15:50

Cuntybollocksface. Terrible name for a little girl. Heard it being shouted the other day in soft play. The toddler's ears were pierced and everything.

Quite liked her older sister's name though - Jane. Come to think of it, they go really well together.

mayanna123 · 30/06/2012 15:53

'Hating' a name is perhaps a little strong. I agree. However, there are some names that are used SO widely that they lose some of their loveliness and identification purpose imo.

For me, those names include a lot of the cutesy names - Milly, Lily, Molly, Tilly, Emmie, Poppy and for boys Archie, Alfie, Finn, Oliver/Ollie and Jack. They are just everywhere!

On the other hand, less common names e.g. Lydia, Persephone, Courtney, Rupert or Cosmo are at least still useful as a 'name' and whether one likes the name is probably very dependant on whether you've met a nice or awful person with that name.

mayanna123 · 30/06/2012 15:54

What does 'wet' mean, winkle? Is it good or bad? And is the name or the person who is 'wet'?

winkle2 · 30/06/2012 15:55

Wet as in drippy and annoying. That's what I think of when I hear those names. Sorry.

mayanna123 · 30/06/2012 15:57

You don't need to apologise, winkle, I just didn't know what 'wet' means. So those names are drippy and annoying or the people you've met with those names?

winkle2 · 30/06/2012 16:15

It's the names I think are drippy and annoying.

saoifre · 30/06/2012 16:42

I've just been reading about Usher's stalker so can I offer you 'Darshelle', yes, seriously, 'Darshelle'...

Any name that the spelling is 'yooneek.'

The Jayden/Tayden/Wayden etc etc type names.

When the abbreviation of a name is the Christian name. Like Charlie instead of Charlotte etc.

MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 01/07/2012 00:11

NeitherRhymeNorReason
Alice ... DH suggested it if we had a Dd. seriously ... Alice???? I'd rather her be called Mildred.....at least it has something about it.

An excellent choice my dear Wink

louisianablue2000 · 01/07/2012 00:19

Like PPs not keen on the cutsey names that are fine as nn but should never be given names. Also bad spelling, my favourite hated name is 'Abbey-Gale'. At least look up how to spell a name if you want to use it. Actually , that probably makes my real most hated name 'Rachael', it should only have one 'a' in it!!!!

bakedcheesysausagemeat · 01/07/2012 01:10

whatever idiot said they hate kayleigh as it is a made up name/spelling...its an irish name...there is a tradition of names outside england you know...ps shift button not working!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/07/2012 01:36

I think lots of people dislike K names because they are (shush) common.

My first name begins with a K - Kirsty. I am such a khav.Grin
