Made-up name

OK, I don't want to give the actual name that I am thinking of (for a baby of either sex - due to be born in 2 weeks - eek!) but here is the formula/ problems:

Rhymes with two different names, one of each sex, so doesn't have an 'odd' ring to it.

Is not an actual name but is a word with positive associations - not a very long word BTW

Is not slang for anything nor the name of anything odd (as far as I can see from extensive google searches) - except for being the name of one (innocuous enough) body part in another language e.g. (but not) Japanese for elbow

I like the sound of it, I am sure that some friends will think it's an odd choice or even odd to make up a name but I don't like very popular names and this would have meaning for me.

What do you think - mad or brilliant?!

If its a normal word, and not a very long one, I would've thought that makes it pretty hard to google unless you've got a surname.

So just tell us

Fwiw I think made up names are rarely successful

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/06/2012 07:52

J O Y

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/06/2012 08:04

If there might be Jo in it as that is what 'elbow' is in some of the Asian countries and Moy was the nearest guess, then it's got to be Joy. If it isn't, then the OP has the wrong name and that is the right Obe. Grin

I think the elbow thing was a red herring. Is it Pal? Korean for Arm. Rhymes with Sal and Hal.

PrettyPrinceofParties · 25/06/2012 08:19

Or is it actually Cara? Spanish for face.

johnnycomelurky · 25/06/2012 08:21

Ray, Kaye...Yay?

lagartija · 25/06/2012 08:25

But Cara is a girl's name....isn't this name unisex?

CurrySpice · 25/06/2012 08:26

Or is it in fact Elbow? Maybe with Grease as a middle name?

marriedinwhite · 25/06/2012 08:26

Don't be silly. Give the poor child a proper name.

PrettyPrinceofParties · 25/06/2012 08:34

Pfft, if you're going down the route of making up names, you're not going to allow a thing like gender to get in the way. Wink The Beckhams used a girl name for their son, Cruz. And Harper sounds like a boys name to me.

Really though, it is impossible to judge without hearing the name.

SugarBatty · 25/06/2012 08:38

Reveal the name you big teasing attention seeker! Hoping reverse psychology will work Grin

I'm very intrigued! My ds has a v unusual name possibly made up by me as its not on a list anywhere. I love it and so do most other people!

Test it out on the mumsnet jury go on!

ripsishere · 25/06/2012 08:44

Silly thing to do that. Post a teasy post then not reveal it.

SunshineOutdoors · 25/06/2012 08:47

I feel like a sucker giving you what you want..... another 'ooooh, please tell us what it is' post

but

oooh, please tell us what it is! Grin

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 25/06/2012 08:52

My neighbour made up her DD's name, it's really lovely actually, but probably more so for having a good reason behind it.

If you make up a name people will ask you the reason and you need a good one!

CurrySpice · 25/06/2012 08:56

If it has got Jo in it, perhaps it's Fanjo Grin

OP says it's similar to Moy but does not rhyme with it....it does however rhyme with two names..one male and one female and it is a real word with positive connotations.

SunshineOutdoors · 25/06/2012 09:00

But this is a baby names thread, not a riddles thread

TheSpokenNerd · 25/06/2012 09:02

Did she say there was a jo in it then?

I think whoever said Pal made a good guess!

Catsu · 25/06/2012 09:03

Is it day? (rhymes with fay and ray?)

PrettyPrinceofParties · 25/06/2012 09:09

Yes, and there was a bloke in A-Ha called Pal.

AlpinePony · 25/06/2012 09:16

Toast? That's unisex and who doesn't like toast?

AlpinePony · 25/06/2012 09:17

Pal in Norway is obviously as innocuous as Paul.

In the UK it just looks bats.

CurrySpice · 25/06/2012 09:18

Nerd, someone said Jo was elbow in Korean and I just ran with it Blush
