I like the name Martha but can't decide if it's sounds frumpy. More specifically, I think it's lovely for a baby, girl and younger woman but perhaps a bit frumpy for the older lady. I don't know if that makes sense! Your opinions are much appreciated to help me decide.

Yes I'm afraid I do see it as a dull/frumpy name, sorry! It seems quite popular at the moment though.

DottieRose · 11/06/2012 16:52

I don't think Martha is frumpy at all, it is granny chic I suppose but nothing like Gertrude, I would consider that frumpy!

passivehoovering · 11/06/2012 16:56

I don't know about frumpy, but I know i like it. Couldn't have it for my DD for various reasons, and am happy with her name as it is, but I do like Martha. I work with a 27 year old one and know one other.

ContinentalKat · 11/06/2012 16:59

Who told you it's frumpy? It's lovely!
I know an adorable 3yo Martha.

Sirzy · 11/06/2012 17:01

I love it

Toaster24 · 11/06/2012 17:01

Is it frumpy?

Yes.

Sorry.

Puffykins · 11/06/2012 17:04

The prettiest, coolest girl in my year at school was called Martha. It's not frumpy. Or, if it is, it is frumpy in a very cool way. Aforementioned Martha is still great now, incidentally.

weaselm4 · 11/06/2012 17:07

My Martha is 3. I did get some funny looks from older ladies when I told them what her name was, but don't think its frumpy. Depends on the person, I guess, but can be quite funky, I think!

Beamur · 11/06/2012 17:08

I don't think it's frumpy. I know a 50 yr old Martha and also a 5 yr old.

squoosh · 11/06/2012 17:09

I don't think it's frumpy at all. It's elegant.

FunnysInLaJardin · 11/06/2012 17:10

I love Martha. It was on our list, but we have boys!

Martha is timeless.

I always out it in the same group as Maria and Anna, classic, simple but not over-used.

TheMonster · 11/06/2012 17:17

It's my middle name and I dislike it. It is frumpy and embarrassing.

mathanxiety · 11/06/2012 17:54

I find it very frumpy. I think of it as a name for hens, along with Edna.

suburbandream · 11/06/2012 17:57

Not frumpy at all! I know a little Martha, I think it's gorgeous (as is she Smile)

squoosh · 11/06/2012 17:59

Edna is a vile name. Poor old Martha shouldn't be lumped in with Edna!

CakeBump · 11/06/2012 17:59

I like it :)

3rdnparty · 11/06/2012 18:02

I like it only one I know is 25 and lovely Smile i think its a cool classic rather than grannyish

StepOutOfSpring · 11/06/2012 18:03

Ooh Edna is rather nice actually! Makes a change from Ella, Elsie, Eva...

QuickLookBusy · 11/06/2012 18:06

I like it, not frumpy at all.

AnnaFender · 11/06/2012 18:06

I think it is frumpy, sorry. I guessed Martha would be the name when I read the thread title.

....BUT, I don't know any Marthas. Name associations change as soon as you know a person with that name iyswim.

LynetteScavo · 11/06/2012 18:07

Martha is not at all frumpy! It's a lovely gentle, down to earth, classic name.
