Does it just make you think of the shop?
I like, but don't love.

What else might I like? I think I like it because it sounds (to me) strong without being harsh.

What say you?

Zara Phillips.

squoosh · 08/06/2012 16:07

I think of the royal Zara.

AdventuresWithVoles · 08/06/2012 16:14

Shop, yes. Also makes me think of a Zara in DS year 3 group; I mix her up with another child called Zaranne (spelt similar but said completely differently).

Lilka · 08/06/2012 16:31

I don't think of anything! But it's a lovely name

Badgerina · 08/06/2012 16:35

I think of the shop and Zara Philips. Sara is nicer IMO.

I like strong, non-frilly girls names too.

You might like:

Tamsyn
Hannah
Clara
Megan
Saskia
Emma
Edith

blondiep14 · 08/06/2012 16:55

Ah, the Royal connection, of course. Well, as far as Royal's go she's ok I guess!

Like Edith!

DH is keen on Z as an initial now we've discussed Zara. Apart from Zoe, is there anything else nice?

I like Zara but it does make me think of the shop. I used to work with a Zena and I always admired her name!

Mollydoggerson · 08/06/2012 17:00

Zeta
Zilla

I like Zara alot

My greatGM was called Zulma.

There is a famous Zizi in france

Sophia can be spelled Zophia in some languages.

And of course there is Ziva in NCIS.

I think you are pretty limited with a Z for a girl.

StepOutOfSpring · 08/06/2012 17:28

Zara is a lovely name :) I don't think of the shop at all, but do think of the royal Zara (and I like her).

How about Zinnia, Zarina, Zaneta?

shop and royal, although I always thought it a bit low class for a royal.

Lunarlyte · 08/06/2012 18:55

Got another 'Z' name - Zuleika. It's Arabic, I think. Means something like bright and shining.

blondiep14 · 08/06/2012 18:59

Lovely Z names, thank you.
Sadly our surname is a mouthful so short and sweet is best.

I'll add Zara to our list.
Which currently consists of Zara!
I like Phoebe actually but both DS's names end in an 'e' sound so may sound a bit twee?

I think of my friend's 6 week old dd3, who is called Zara Grin

blondiep14 · 08/06/2012 19:23

Does it sit well on a baby rude?
I know they're only didi for a second but it seems a rather grown up name IYSWIM?

Hoti · 08/06/2012 20:06

Love it but have 2 DSs. You may also like Amara which I also love.

backjustforaminute · 08/06/2012 20:12

I know a few, a teenager, one in her 30s and an older lady. I think it means flower in Arabic.

jaffacakehips · 08/06/2012 20:20

Prince Charles...picked Zara Philips name or at least he suggested it to her parents

I like it.

RueDeWakening · 09/06/2012 00:23

It works pretty well tbh, her biggest sister has a "baby" type name which I think she'll struggle with as she gets older (it's a nickname given as her full name IYSWIM) and to me, that would be more of a problem - as you say, they're tiny for hardly any time at all.

manicinsomniac · 09/06/2012 09:29

I just think of the Zaras that I know

It's a gorgeous name.

blondiep14 · 09/06/2012 09:37

Liking all the positive reactions - thanks all

I really like it! HAs been on our shorlist before:

Other options

Susannah
Martha
Tabitha
Matilda
Phillipa

EllenParsons · 09/06/2012 19:03

I love Zara. I think of the royal before the shop, but neither would be huge connotations for me. I just think it's a lovely, pretty and simple but not boring name. Pretty perfect really!
