"Spirited" Boys Names!

Hi folks, long time viewer, first time poster!

Hubby and I have baby number one on the way, we know it's a boy and are looking for a name that is unusual , Scottish and makes a statement (hopefully not that we're alcoholics! Haha).

Anyway, we are both Whisky fans, indeed we met through mutual Whisky Society friends.

With that in mind we were thinking of a Whisky themed name. Now, there are some fairly obvious ones, Ben, Glen, even Moray (pronounced Murray) or Rinnes, but they don't really resonate with our tastes.

We currently have a short list of Lagavulin, Laphroaig, or, if this is too "out there", Peater (I guess an alternative spelling of a classic).

What do you think?

Terrible idea. Second name, at a push

monkeymoma · 04/06/2012 19:28

i don't know if I LIKE them, but as a non whisky drinker I wouldn't have got the booze connection at all so you're prob safe in that only fellow whisky lovers will see you as whiskyaholics

I'd avoid anything sold in supermarkets & thus easily recognisable eg laphroig, Jura etc. Bit like calling a kid Jacob's Creek. But talisker is good...

My favourite scotch is Highland Park. How about it? Could call him Kirkwall where it's brewed?

Pixieonthemoor · 06/06/2012 14:44

I know an Oban! How about Macallan but shortened to Mac?

My daughter had a friend at school called Jack and his
Surname was Daniels. The poor child got teased so bad, it
Was beyond a joke. What were his parents thinking??

I would just say, choose carefully, as kids can be cruel, especially
At school.

moredoll · 09/09/2018 23:17

I like Jamieson actually. Good for a name and I know plenty of Scots called Jamieson (admittedly as a surname).

Innes
Campbell
Atholl

If it really must be whisky maybe Talisker?

moredoll · 09/09/2018 23:18
