Was it rated or slated? Grin

My name is on a thread now and am pleased to see so many people like it and think it's classic and elegant :) I however, am not

My name comes up all the time.

When I was younger there wasn't a single other person my age with the name.

Now, it's probably one of the most popular girls names.

Hopefully all the little girls with my name dont get picked on half as much as I did because of it.

AhsokaTano · 01/06/2012 09:50

I've never ever seen mine and it's not a made up name!

I never came across another one at school but do bond with the few that cross my path these days.

It's a variant of Caroline.

littletomato · 01/06/2012 10:17

I just searched for my name and it mostly comes up on "which girl names do you completely hate / are ugly and middle-aged-sounding" threads. Which is fair, because I don't like it either.
And even worse, my first & last name are alliterated. I've always found it somewhat embarrassing to state my name.
What I think I should point out is that as I was the second-born, apparently my FATHER was allowed to name me. My older sibling, named by my mother, has a gorgeous classic name. Make of that what you will...

MrsTwinks · 01/06/2012 10:34

mine show up alot, generally liked, but a FAR cry from when I was a kid when no one could get it right. My mum even was stopped and had someone once ask her why she named her child after a potato (it was a species or something apparently)

Stellan · 01/06/2012 10:35

My name crops up quite regularly but it's been in the top 20 since at least 1998 and the top 100 for most of the last 100 years. I think it went out of fashion a bit from the 30s to 60s but it's been going strong otherwise! I like it a lot but I have quite a few friends with the same name.

TheLastNameLeft · 01/06/2012 10:35

Yes, although the thread itself was in two camps between lovely and "old-fashioned"

FoofFighter · 01/06/2012 11:16

but old-fashioned is a compliment in my opinion :) your MN name is very apt for this thread Grin

A classic, they said, but not overused. strong but feminine. A little dull.

Am surprised it's still considered an option since the royal wedding TBH but people still seem to be putting it on their lists Confused

Buntingbunny · 01/06/2012 11:38

Mine and DHs were so common when we were born it will be a while before they are revived.

The DDs names are like, but too popular too useGrin

Bunbaker · 01/06/2012 11:50

Never. I have an unusual and, IMO, ugly name. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

StellaNova · 01/06/2012 11:54

Mine's a timeless classic preens

But it is always used with my exact same middle name as well. They just seem to go together like rama, lama, lama kadingy, kading-a-dong.

My parents clearly had very little imagination.

abbypumpkin · 01/06/2012 11:55

No never. My name apparently was number two in the charts around the lat 60s, early 70s. I've only ever actually met one other with same name and none that have my spelling although my name is not unusual.

StellaNova · 01/06/2012 12:15

Ah, now I am over-used and clunky. Pride comes before a fall!

Mechavivzilla · 01/06/2012 12:26

My name has never ever been mentioned on a thread :D

It is scandinavian (though I am not) and there are two actresses with the same name but I have never met another one in real life :)

neversaydie · 01/06/2012 12:44

I have just searched, and it has come up. Once. In the context of how the name should be pronounced. Interesting thread, and only about half suggested the pronounciation I answer to.

Which is actually better than the average I experienced as a child, where people seemed to wilfully hear a completely different name and call me that. I am so glad that unusual names are the norm now - people actually listen to introductions!

DoingItForMyself · 01/06/2012 13:02

Mine is a classic and always suggested along with Amelia, Elizabeth and Sophie so I'm presuming its quite acceptable :-)

Saw DS2's name on here the other day (not on the Zebedee thread!) of cool names celebrities have used that you wish you were brave enough to call your DC Grin Its not one of the outlandish ones, just as they said, pretty cool.

DD1 is always "oooh way too popular" (I agree) and never ever ever seen DS1's name except once when I outed myself in the early days by telling people my DC's nicknames for each other - DOH!

BringBack1996 · 01/06/2012 13:05

All my name seems to get is "how on earth do you pronounce it" and then, once pronunciation is described "how on earth do you get that from that?!". So basically the same reaction as I get in real life :o

On and it's also Irish, popular with grannies apparently Confused

Shoshe · 01/06/2012 13:20

Yep, and its always argued how it should be spelt

Psammead · 01/06/2012 14:13

Mine is often suggested, never accepted.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

FunnyLovesTheJubilee · 01/06/2012 14:15

my name comes up fromj time to time as do my DC's always seem to have favourable comments. Mind you we are a classy bunch

anewmotivatedme · 01/06/2012 15:31

My name was described by one person as cutesy, and another chavvy.

Can't say I cared. My name's never held me back.

GlaikitFizzogKnitterOfTheRealm · 01/06/2012 15:35

My name was described as dated once. Which I suppose it is but I do k ow a baby my name so I don't actually care. Circle of life innit!!

Lunarlyte · 01/06/2012 17:02

Yes, my name is of Latin origin and is reagarded as one of those 'classical' names like Elizabeth or Charlotte.

It must be due a revival soon as I was born inte early 1980s when it was quite popular. I really like my name and DD2 has a name that could be a pet form of mine :)

usualsuspect · 01/06/2012 17:03

Yes , its called boring and of it's time
