Lily or Daisy ?

I like both. I think Lily is s bit more unusual but (
Sorry for this) is it too flowery ? If its s girl likely to go for one of them

Not keen on flower girls names - with the exception of Iris and Rose.

There were 4257 baby girls named Lily in 2010, you might not be bothered by a very common name, Daisy is marginally less popular and if forced I'd probably chose Daisy.

Both of these are extraordinarily popular and of the moment. They'll date. Think outside the box - there are screeds of beautiful girls names out there.

I'd choose neither - they're both incredibly widely used already and will sound dated as people fall out of love with 'cutesy' names.

My grandmother's name was Lily and she was born in 1919. Her mother was Lilian; I'm pretty sure she was born in the 1880s. I take the point from Sodoff about the name dating (particularly girls born in the last 5-10yrs) but what I'm saying is that Lily isnt reserved to this time.

Lily/Daisy/Poppy are pretty popular now though (I'm not being critical as the names I've chosen for my daughters get stick on here for being too popular!) so if thats something that concerns you, maybe consider less used 'flowery' names: something like Camellia?

There's a good book called Baby Names Made Easy that lists books by meaning, rather than alphabetical order. There is a 'Flowers, Trees and Things that Grow' section where you'll fine your more unusual flowery names x

That said, if you want a Lily or Daisy, have it! I like Lily :)

I have a Lily.I wanted to call her Daisy but DH took against it at the last minute :) My Lily was named after an old lady I used to look after early in my career (as in fact was DD2 who is called Mae).Those old lady names are back in fashion now I suppose.If you wanted to buck the trend now I suppose you would call your kid something that was popular in the seventies like Tracey, (which will probably come back into fashion in about 30 years or so...)

I think they are both lovely names. I also know a little girl called Bluebell, I had never heard that one before.

Lily. Daisy reminds me of a cow for some reason.

Lily is so overused, which is unfortunate, and in my opinion, Daisy is the name of a little girl, not a fully grown adult/ You have to remember you're naming a person, not a baby.

"Ah, Dr Daisy!"
"This is my lawyer, Daisy ..."

Its a bit cutesy.

You could always name her Margaret (or Marguerite or Margarita). One of the meanings is Daisy, so Daisy is one of the traditional nns, but there are of course many others for her to use if she wishes throughout her life.

Lily, well you could go for Madonna! It's not very common although I do know one - NOT named after the singer! :)

There is a new film version of the great Gatsby coming out this year and Daisy is a bitch

Lily's not a tiny bit unusual it's currently one of the most popular girls name and there are load of Lilys in every school. IMO Daisy is a bit better although I'm not terribly keen.

Just a word of warning about very girly names. I was talking to some students whilst on duty the other day (secondary school teacher) about baby names as they're fascinated by my ever increasing bump. A couple of the girls have very girly names (including one Daisy) and were complaining that their names make them sound "like I'm three or something" and the one who wants to be a solicitor is determined to change her name "so people don't think I'm stupid." I know teenage girls often experiment with changing the spelling of their name, and many complain they don't like their names but these girls are very sensible and not teenage-angsty at all. When I asked the girl who wants to change her name what she want to change it to she said the longer, more formal version of her name (e.g. Matilda rather than the Tilly on birth certificate - not real example!) so it isn't as if she's doing it just to irritate her parents.

I know a little girl called Hebe and it's so unusual! I like it, though I thought I'd misheard her mother calling her Phoebe at first.

My personal favourite grown-up flower name is Camellia :)

All the flower names are popular, go to a soft play and they'll be loads. I have a dd with a flower name and I hear it everywhere which is annoying. I would go with Daisy over Lily as I believe it is less popular. I really like Fleur.
