For anyone following the saga, our surname is Cummings and we were going to go with Barnaby (nn Barney) but somehow didn't use it so it hasn't stuck. We still might well go with it but an alternative has popped up - Rex. Similar to Max which we liked but hopefully without sounding rude?

I'd appreciate any honest opinions please!

Just to rock the boat a little more (sorry) I think a long (3 syllables plus) name would go best with your surname.

So, Barnaby (rather than Rex) or...

Alexander
Sebastian (as mentioned already)
Dominic (Dom)
Frederick (Fred/Freddie)
Josiah (Joss/Jed)
Nathaniel (Nat/Nate)
Christopher (Chris/Kit?)
Jonathan (Jonny)
Nicholas (Nick)
Theodore (Teddy/Theo)
Anthony (Ant/Tony)

You get the idea! All can have nice nicknames but IMHO their length sounds really nice with your surname. Good luck :)

There is nothing wrong with Rex, it's a splendid name.

Yes, it does get given to dogs, but the current fashion is for naming pets with human names, so an awful lot of names would be ruled out on that basis.

What's wrong with 'Sexy Rexy'? That's a very flattering nn, who minds being described as sexy!!

If you were to be swayed towards a longer name, there is Reginald which traditionally shortens to Rex. That would be an unusual choice.

I think ViolaCrayola has suggested some really great names that really do seem go with your surname.

Anony have you come to any decison yet?

Totally agree about the longer name going well with your surname:

Laurence Cummings - would be lovely IMO

Barney is also nice although I'm not too keen on Rex - sorry!

Hope you've decided by now though!!

Well I'm going to say go for Barney! But then I'm completely and utterly biased as it's DS5's name, and I love it! He's Barnaby, and he always has that option to use that when he's older, but I do know of older Barney's so I don't think it's a problem.

Not sure on Rex, but only because I knew someone called Rex so it makes me think of an old man, but I guess he was young once!

I can't say it's a dog's name, because so is Barney!

In conclusion, Barney!

i like Barnaby and Rex, how about one as his middle name and one has his first name, either way round would work i think :)
