Our little boy is coming up to two weeks old and we can't decide between these two names. His middle name will be Christopher

Kayano · 26/04/2012 21:49

Finn

I actually hate Logan shudder sorry!

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 26/04/2012 21:49

I like Logan best Smile

Piffle · 26/04/2012 21:58

Finn but I am biased as I have one :-)

LynetteScavo · 26/04/2012 21:59

Logan

ShowOfHands · 26/04/2012 21:59

Finn by a country mile.

taten · 26/04/2012 22:02

His last name is fletcher, hence the dilemma over Finn (so he'd be Finn fletcher)

Logan...please don't. Finn - big yes, but I see what you mean about Finn Fletcher. I think Finlay Fletcher sounds great (nn Finn)

taten · 26/04/2012 22:30

Aarrgh, naming a boy is so hard....

MonaLotte · 26/04/2012 22:41

I have a Fin (Findlay) so another vote for Finn from me!

mamalovesmojitos · 26/04/2012 22:42

Both lovely. Sorry, I know that doesn't help!

HolyCameraConfusionBatman · 26/04/2012 23:38

Love Finn, but it's soooo popular at the moment. Finn Fletcher sounds like a private detective and it's a bit of a tongue twister.

Logan is awful.

Why not go with Christopher Fletcher nn Kit. Kit Fletcher. Lovely.

cakeismysaviour · 26/04/2012 23:44

Logan is awful, sorry.

Finn is ok, but a bit 'wet'.

SLVC · 27/04/2012 00:21

Finn is great, Logan is awful IMO.. (sorry).. Finn it is!

SodoffBaldrick · 27/04/2012 03:21

Logan, no contest.

Finn is going to sound very dated to the next generation...

sasamunde · 27/04/2012 03:23

Love Logan and nearly called DS that. I think it goes v well with Fletcher too.

foxeeroxee · 27/04/2012 03:28

I love both but am biased towards logan as its dc3's name!
I like the suggestion of kit as well...i tried that but oh was having none of it!
Boys names are hard!!!
Congrats Smile

NovackNGood · 27/04/2012 03:30

Ah Glee. Finn Christopher is that a windup. You do realise it will be F in Christopher by all his friends as soon as moves up to school?

upsidewide · 27/04/2012 03:31

Logan is a fab name.

Love Finn too. Prefer Logan. I know a 5 year old called Logan, parents are Scottish, he is the cutest, kindest, toughest little ruftie tuftie little boy I know. It's a great name.

As much as I think Finn is a lovely name, it has been done to death.

emmyloo2 · 27/04/2012 04:08

Ummm....neither sorry.

I can't stand the name Logan and Finn is so overdone (although it is not a terrible name).

Christopher, as suggested by someone, on the other hand is lovely.

What about Finian?

WMDinthekitchen · 27/04/2012 04:27

Findlay or Finlay Fletcher sounds better - people would shorten it to Fin(n) anyway. I quite like Finn, though, and know two. Generally, I am not so sure about first names that are generally found as surnames e.g. Fin(d)lay, Logan, Campbell, (altho' I do know someone with a name like that, tho' not specifically one of those mentioned above, and am accustomed to it now). Hope that makes sense (it is nearly 4.30am!)

taten · 27/04/2012 07:08

Can Logan be shortened to anything nice though?

OP posts:
foxeeroxee · 27/04/2012 07:17

Well its not exactly short but dc3 gets called logi-bear or loganberry.Hes only 4month so we can still get away with calling him sickly stuff like that. Smile
And our last name begins with f and ends in -er and it sounds quite nice. (well to us!!)

Stellan · 27/04/2012 08:09

In my opinion, Logan is very 2000s and Finn very 2010s. Christopher, on the other hand, is classic, timeless name. I really like the suggestion of Christopher nn Kit. For me, Kit has a similar feel to Finn so I think it would be a good option for you to consider.

As far as Logan and Finn are concerned, just go with the one you prefer. Neither bowl me over but both are commonplace, standard names these days so your son will be fine with either. Be wary of saddling your son with two surnames though as it could lead to confusion growing up.

Some alliteration works - think Marilyn Monroe, Janis Joplin, Greta Garbot, Sharon Stone, Sissy Spacek, Farrah Fawcett, January Jones and so on - but I'm not sure Finn Fletcher falls into that same group. Felix Fletcher works though.

I agree that Finlay Fletcher is more promising. Finnegan Fletcher either sounds silly or brilliant - can't decide! Fintan Fletcher?

I know you didn't ask this but if you're having doubts about Finn and Declan, you might like:
Declan Fletcher
Euan/Ewan Fletcher
Rory Fletcher
Keir Fletcher
Lorcan Fletcher
Owen Fletcher
Quinn Fletcher (following on from the Glee theme...)
Noah Fletcher
Cormac Fletcher
Callum Fletcher
Colin Fletcher
Bryn Fletcher
Rowan Fletcher

But Christopher nn Kit is still my front-runner.

All the best!

tammy234 · 27/04/2012 08:47

Neither, sorry.

I really dislike Logan and Finn is so overused and dull.

Christopher, however, is a lovely classic, underused name.
