A girl! DH stumped. Help please.

So it looks like we're expecting a little girl! We had boys' names sorted, but girls' names have always stumped DH.

i like simple, non-nicknamey names like Jane, Rose, Mary, Lucy, Anna, Helen, and so on.

but he has a random negative association with each and every one of them plus anything else i suggest. Beatrice is frilly; Elizabeth is boring; he once had a goldfish called Charlotte; Catherine is the name of an annoying relative; no-one can pronounce Corinne or Coralie; and so we carry on.

i think he is so bored by girls' names that he says no to all of them out of annoyance... but then he just has to hear more, so not sure why he does that!

So here are the only names he has not vetoed:
Annabelle
Annabel (? which spelling is better?)
Madeleine (side note: he had absolutely vetoed this previously but now seems to think that never happened)

More suggestions?
Comments on v short list?
We have a highly unusual surname so nothing too outlandish will be accepted as a given name. He loves Vincent for a boy.

May a suggest you repeat the names you like at random intervals. If he is like my DH his opinion on names changes like the wind.

Make a note of ALL that he says he likes.

FWIW I love Annabel and if we have a dd3 it will be on my list.
We have an Amelia and a Claudia by the way if that helps.

used2bthin · 18/04/2012 20:00

Love the name Vincent for a boy too, usually people disagree with me! i am having a girl too and DH keeps disagreeing with my choices its annoying!

I will tell you some of the names that seem to fit that I have had DH say no to in case they are any good for you-

Clara
Sophie
Tabitha

now my mind has gone blank! Annabelle and Madeleine are both lovely. refer Annabelle as a spelling I think. Not sure why though!

used2bthin · 18/04/2012 20:01

Ooh Claudia, I love that name, maybe I will try that on DH again myself.

LineRunner · 18/04/2012 20:10

I like Annabel and Madeleine from the list.

How about
Josephine

mathanxiety · 18/04/2012 20:20

Or Tess, since you like shorter names.

oikopolis · 18/04/2012 20:41

ooooh this is taking me back to my original list. thanks everyone.

i love Josephine, thanks math. i do like shorter names but tbh it's more the classic names that i like, with a preference for the shorter ones but not necessarily. longer ones can be nicknamed usually in any case.

love Isa/obel/le and Sophie/a but they are top 5 here.

Annabel is my preferred spelling. I find the name a little frilly, personally, and much prefer Anna - which I think is great! Either Anna or Annabel would make a good, sensible choice.
