Peaches Geldof has called her son Astala. I personally think it's a beautiful name, it's Hebrew in origin. Thoughts?

She's had him already?

DaSmallPunsMum · 15/04/2012 13:53

No she's called her unborn son that I meant.

Well, she wouldn't call him John, would she?

belgo · 15/04/2012 14:22

She's announced the name already? Maybe she'll change her mind.

applepieinthesky · 15/04/2012 14:35

She announced the name at the same time she announced she was pregnant Hmm

PuffPants · 15/04/2012 14:50

I think John would be a very cool name to give a baby boy these days! He'd certainly stand out.

nizlopi · 15/04/2012 14:55

Sounds like a girls name to me personally.

LesAnimaux · 15/04/2012 14:59

Peaches Geldof had a baby? Scary.

Sounds like a girls name to me. Or a plant/car.

Bob is a good name. Grin

belgo · 15/04/2012 15:00

She should call him John-Bob.

LesAnimaux · 15/04/2012 15:02

OK, call me old and suburban, but do they know what to do with a baby? Do they even know how to hire a decent nanny?

LesAnimaux · 15/04/2012 15:03

John-Bob ...Perfect.

I can see him in 17 years time auditioning on something like The Voice (or what ever is popular then)

LesAnimaux · 15/04/2012 15:17

Is is As-TAR-lar, or AS -t-la?

DerbysKangaskhan · 15/04/2012 15:19

Where are you getting that it's Hebrew? My kids have some obscure Hebrew names and I've never heard of it. All the links I've got are Finnish (and Google wants to me search for a Astala Bonk. This I would find concerning).

javotte · 15/04/2012 15:35

As in Astala Vista Baby?

LesAnimaux · 15/04/2012 15:37

No, that's hasta la vista Grin

BBQJuly · 15/04/2012 16:34

It sounds like a girls name, because a lot of girls names end in "a" and it's a bit like Astrid and Aurora.

DaSmallPunsMum · 15/04/2012 20:29

I read her interview in Hello when she first announced her pregnancy. Have a new-found respect for her now, she only really got bad press when she was a teen, and it was always so silly and trying to make her into her mother, who she isn't. Anyway shes a 23 year old woman now with a baby boy on the way and came across as eloquent and intelligent. I think she'll be a great mother personally, and shestated in that interview that she will not be having a nanny as she doesn't like the idea of someone else other than her and her fiance raising their boy. I wish her all the best really, people on here can be so spiteful! I like the name and it's pronounced as-TA-la not as-TAR-la she said in the interview too. I am considering it as a middle name for my boy thoughts?

She'll not be having a nanny...ha! Heard all that before. I give it 6 months.
Ridiculous name.

Blatherskite · 15/04/2012 20:42

Sounds like a pop group.

A rubbish beepy, repetitive vocals type of pop group

southeastastra · 15/04/2012 20:43

it's good!

smokeandglitter · 15/04/2012 21:02

I think it sounds feminine.

DaSmallPunsMum · 15/04/2012 21:04

She states in the interview very clearly that as her mother and father hired a nanny to raise her and the lines between who was the real parent became blurred for her and caused her sadness in later life when the nanny left, she will categorically not be hiring a nanny at any point in the future. She's a journalist/broadcaster and her fiance is a musician it says in her Hello! interview so why would she need to? So much vitriol for someone you don't know, CPtart, how sad for you to be so embittered on a mums forum of all things. It's a joyful time in this young womans life who tragically lost her own mother at a young age. Appaling! I like the sound of the name, but don't know if it will go with what we are thinking of for our sons first name which is maybe Jonah or Indigo?

Da are you Peaches? Grin

She's insufferably up her own arse. If she has this baby and quietly gets on with it fair play to her... Like that's going to happen though. Call me snarky all you like, she's an utter tool.

The names not too out there though.

DaSmallPunsMum · 15/04/2012 23:36

Yes of course i'm here! Having a jolly jaunt round Mumsnet checking out the message boards publicly?! I have researched celebrity names whilst looking for my childs and as I always loved the names Paula Yates gave her girls (Pixie, Tiger, Fifi and of course Peaches) I was interested to see what Peaches would name her son and loved it. There are some terrible celeb baby names though I found in my research- pilot inspektor and moon unit anyone?! i just think Indigo Astala has a ring to it but not so much Jonah Astala. Which leads me on to... Jonah or Indigo as his first name??
