You could spell it Feenicks.

Grin

I'll get me coat.

Ah but they don't if they really hate it. They can say 'From now on I want to be called Tiffany or Blake or whatever'. If my DD asked that, I'd do it. Might be a bit Hmm about Tiffany though!

DD doesn't have a bonkers name BTW. Just one a bit unusual maybe.

NoteSpelling · 30/03/2012 18:31

I would pronounce Fenix as Fennicks.

And it sounds like something you could buy in Boots.

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 18:40

Ok so just so we're clear, if we do choose this name it'll be spelt Phoenix.

"Ah but they don't if they really hate it. They can say 'From now on I want to be called Tiffany or Blake or whatever'."

Except the damage may already be done. It was for me.

Janoschi · 30/03/2012 18:49

Is your real name SoupDragon?

HandMadeTail · 30/03/2012 18:53

I love Felix, but as DD2 has an x and DD1 doesn't, it didn't seem fair to give DS a name with an x, as well.

Chateauneuf · 30/03/2012 19:01

Finn MacCool is a more interesting Finn to be named after than Glee's!

Janoschi · 30/03/2012 19:02

I'm sure there must be some awful bullying experiences behind some of the concern here and I honestly am sympathetic to this. Was bullied myself, just not for my name - which sort of opens up the point that kids will always find something to pick at, I suppose.

But I genuinely don't understand why a kid called Phoenix is going to get more flak than one called William or Richard, for example. Willy and Dick aren't exactly desirable nicknames.... Phoenix could use Nick if he wanted to blend in too, before he goes for the middle name option.

I just feel a bit Sad that the message is that a 'weird' name will do lasting damage to a child and parents are cruel to do it, and it really isn't always the case. Especially when the names up for discussion aren't usually even that crazy.

My two sisters also have strange names and both are running their own businesses and being pretty successful....

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 19:30

Well said janoSmile

As I said, my nephew wasn't bullied. He just hated his name getting more attention than he did! He hated having to explain it and spell it every time. And he said that he wanted to be known for who he was, rather than "the boy called....." intstingly, as soon as he chqngednhis name, so didnhis sisters. I don't know, butni suspect that they didn't want to hurt their parents' feelings, but once he tool the lead they followed.

Seeker - I knew the same thing about a guy called 'Hari Krishna' by his hippie parents. As soon as he could he became Chris.

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 19:49

I really don't think Phoenix is that 'out there'.. He can always use Harrison if he really wants to.

Frontpaw · 30/03/2012 19:50

Seeker - I really need to know thise names! I got horribly bullied over mone - too 'posh' then as we got older, could be turned into a couple of sexual innuendos. Thanks, mum!

In the words of George (Eric) Orwell 'it took me years to live my name down'.

SoupDragon · 30/03/2012 19:54

"Is your real name SoupDragon?"

Ha ha ha. Hmm

oikopolis · 30/03/2012 20:03

Dylan, Miles and Phoenix is just... bizarre. It sounds like you had a head injury/personality rearrangement between DS2 and DS3! It would be like naming your DDs Sarah, Megan and Scheherazade imo.

Also Phoenix just sounds like a dreadful try-too-hard celeb name. I would feel quite sorry for a little Phoenix, tbh...

Dylan, Miles and Arlo
Dylan, Miles and Finn
...are wayyyyy better.

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 20:07

Lol oik they're not going to travel round as a singing threesomeGrin

I don't know why everyone keeps suggesting Arlo, it just doesn't really say anything to me..

I love Dylan :) Do you mind if I ask, does he have a middle name? Also, do you call him Dyl for short?

Phoenix just reminds me of River Phoenix! Finn is good, what about Fergus? Or Jasper?

Ooh..it's hard!

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 20:11

itdoesnthurt thanksSmile yeah his middle name is passed down from his dad and grandad, it's McGregor..

We call him Dilly-bobs sometimes but more usually chiefGrin

I do like Finn..

seeker · 30/03/2012 20:15

Ah-a Scottish connection!

Dylan Miles and Lachlan

BeaditAli · 30/03/2012 20:16

I got flamed on MN when I asked for opinions between two names...... We went with one of them which is MEGA popular but we adore it, it really suits our DS and I don't agree that a name determines your personality.
I think a main cause of 'name bullying' is if it rhymes with something.... It's a very easy and memorable tease fodder for children. can't really see children ridiculing Phoenix...... If you like it I wouldn't worry and am sure he'll grow into a fine young man Smile

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 20:17

Lucas is niceSmile

Yeah we have a Scottish surname too although technically live in England (just)

I will be forever Sad if you don't go with Jude tho! Grin
I love the name sooooo much........ Maybe I'll gag DH at birth if we have another boy tho don't think it sounds at all nice with DS1s name Sad
