You seem to have covered pop and jazz with your other sons, so I think you should be looking to classical music this time Grin.

So what about Gustav (dd's best friend's name)? After Gustav Mahler.

Btw, Fenix sounds like an anti-histamine (or like you can't spell).

malinois · 30/03/2012 11:58

Felix is Latin for lucky. I very much doubt that most people would be aware that it was also the name of a brand of cat food, although I suppose more people would be aware of Felix the Cat.

It's a fine name, although perhaps more suited as a middle name.

Phoenix is awful, wannabe showbiz, Fenix just says 'I cannot spell.'

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 12:01

Lol silken the pop and jazz thing must be totally accidental as I have no idea what you're referring toGrin

Not sure about Gustav..

Lol at Fenix being an antihistamine. I was searching on a baby name site that covers all nationalities and therefore has several spellings of names, that's where it came from. For the record, I can spellGrinmostly

OMG at using a name based on anyone who would spell rise 'rize'! OP, you need our help Grin

I think Phoenix is probably well-known enough as a name now to raise eyebrows or caue mass embarrassment. In our London schools MOST names are of the type that seem to provoke hilarity and disbelief on MN one way or another, so that's a lot of children with 'unusual' names - safety in numbers, perhaps!

silkenladder · 30/03/2012 12:03

Or (jazz-inspired) Leon, Irving or Herbie?

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 12:04

malinios ooh deffo not going for 'wanna be showbiz'. So hard to give people an idea of who you are over the internet!

We are arty types who like walks on the beach and enjoy the simple things, not materialistic and certainly not showbizGrin

Lol Blu I know Rize is ridiculous!! That's the point, Tenacious D are very tongue in cheek and very silly indeed.

X-posted.

Bob Dylan, Miles Davis? No?

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 12:07

Ah of course, yes, I know (and don't really like) Bob Dylan. Less familiar with Miles Davis though..

Dairynips- he wasn't bullied. He was teased a bit, but the main problem was just so very wearing that every time he said his name, the person said the equivalent of "sorry, didn't catch that". Followed by "oh, that's unusual" Followed by "how do you spell it?" He said he wanted to be known as him, not as "the boy called....." I'm not sure that the main focus of bullying would be a name- (my children have a last name that can be made into something rude by transposing a letter- so I know whereof I speak) but it's just really really boring to have to explain yourself all the time

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 12:17

Ah I see, my surname is like that, 99% of people can't spell it. I have to say though I quite like that it's like thatSmile I can see how it would be annoying or a child to deal with though. Do you really think people would have a problem spelling Phoenix though?

SoupDragon · 30/03/2012 12:19

Neither of your other children have unusual names at all.

Remember that you don't create "cool" child by giving them a particular name. If they are going to be cool they will be cool whether you call them Bob or Zowie. You can, however, very easily destroy a child's confidence by given them a daft "unusual" name.

NarkedPuffin · 30/03/2012 12:22

Felix is a brilliant name but has been taked over by the cat food in the UK.

Chateauneuf · 30/03/2012 12:29

Your other kids names instantly made me think of Dylan Thomas and Miles Davis, which is quite "arty". Phoenix just makes me think of River Phoenix. But perhaps that's a generational thing, how many little 'Keanu's running around associate it with Reeves? There is that Harry Potter Book "Order of the Phoenix", isn't there?

As you've got poetry/pop and jazz ticked with your other kids, what about Pablo? Either after Picasso or the Radiohead album?

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 12:30

Soup, I said they are slightly unusual. I agree Dylan is actually quite popular but I know of no other children round here called Miles. I just meant they are not totally mainstream like Christopher or Brian or Oliver for instance

Comedian called Hannibal Buress. His brother and sister are called David and Angela. His parents are called Margaret and John. He's in the only profession where his name is a bonus as it gives him material.

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 12:40

Chateau Pablo is cool but a bit too, well, Spanish soundingGrin

OP posts:
Frontpaw · 30/03/2012 12:43

Fabian? Not toooooo unusual and won't get 'eh? What?

DairyNips · 30/03/2012 12:48

Narked that guy is funny Grin

OP posts:
DairyNips · 30/03/2012 12:53

Not sure about Fabian, sorry..

Devora · 30/03/2012 12:59

How about Arthur or Seth or Chet?

I'm afraid I agree with the general consensus on Phoenix and especially Fenix.

Chateauneuf · 30/03/2012 13:04
