Ciarán

A girl will definitely be Roisín.

I quite like Eamonn but can't imagine a baby Eamonn.

Watching with interest as am also expecting...DD is Sadhbh so if this is a boy, we've just about settled on Tadhg but some gorgeous suggestions here. If we have another girl, I'm thinking Meabh. We are in the UK, none of these names are hard to say

MadameChinLegs · 26/03/2012 20:05

Dillon?
Ennis?
Fergus? (My favourite)
Lorcan?
Ruari?

MadameMessy · 26/03/2012 20:06

Ailbhe has been used for girls recently but is a boys name. Suppose it has become unisex. Much like Naoise

myheadsamarley · 26/03/2012 20:08

lurking..... What about these?

Lorcan
Canice
Phelim (think the 'e' is pronounced 'ay')
Fintan
Se (Shay)
Ruadhan
Ruairi
Emmett
Eunan

Loads of irish boys' names begin with C which was our prob as our surname begins with C so we went for Fintan..

Happy Choosing :)

myheadsamarley · 26/03/2012 20:09

sorry hopeless with Fada's etc......

spiderbabymum · 26/03/2012 20:12

theseventhdwarf · 26/03/2012 20:35

odin is another nice one!

My DH has a lesser known Irish name - when we lived in the uk (and australia and New Zealand) it was a right PIA for him - no one got it right and in the end he had to keep saying it s ultan as in Sultan to everyone! So definately if you re not living in a gaelic country think about the bother with spelling and pronunciation for you and the child!
(didnt stop us giving our ds a similar name ha ha ... reminds me of that johnny cash song ... boy named sue!!)

ladybird69 · 26/03/2012 20:57

My son is called Niall love it and its such a great name

Superfly · 26/03/2012 22:40

Love threads like this - I am very proud of my heritage and my sons names reflect that. I get a bit Sad when I see the names of my boys lumped in with the 'chavvy/ naughty' threads.
Seeing all these gorgeous names a) makes me glad over again that I chose the names I did and b) slightly broody that I wont have any more so that I can choose another lovely name Smile

lurkingmurking · 27/03/2012 12:08

Thanks everyone - some amazing names here!

How is Naoise pronounced?

Daragh/Dara is definitely creeping up the list.

squoosh · 27/03/2012 12:15

LucyManga · 27/03/2012 12:17

MadameMessy · 27/03/2012 12:21

Oh piaras is lovely!

bluechik · 27/03/2012 12:22

We named our boys Finnbar and Cormac - also wanted the ease of spelling option since we are likely to end up overseas.

I'd be very excited to meet a real life Setanta. I'd expect him to be in full on mythical warrior mode, chest beating and the like.

I still like Ferdia.
