Ciarán

A girl will definitely be Roisín.

I quite like Eamonn but can't imagine a baby Eamonn.

I went to school with a setanta :o
he was the least manly man the last time I met him, must look him up on FB to double check :)

AThingInYourLife · 27/03/2012 13:52

Setanta is marvellous.

"Setanta Ó hAilpín - father from Fermanagh, mother from Fiji. Neither one a hurling stronghold!" :o

It's true too - in hurling country you might as well be from Fiji as from Fermanagh for how seriously they'd take your hurling.

squoosh · 27/03/2012 13:57

Oh yessss Setanta Ó hAilpín. I've seen pictures of him.

Not your typical hurler is he? Swoonsome.

babyblabber · 27/03/2012 21:04

In all my years, I've never once encountered a female Naoise!

How about Malachy for a boy?

Love Lochlann

readysteadymummy · 02/04/2012 17:43

Patrick or Rowan are lovely

squoosh · 02/04/2012 17:50

I didn't know Coillte was used as an actual name.

HardCheese · 02/04/2012 19:36

Isn't it 'Caoilte' - an entirely different name, though a homonym to 'Coillte' , as in the Irish foresty services? I think it's another one of those Fianna names...?

whitelillies · 02/04/2012 19:38

Great to read this thread. We live in Co.Clare and have an Oisin (how do you add fadas?). We are expecting dc2.

Do you think Aoibheann would be a crazy girl name for us? A bit like calling dc2 Roisin? I know there are three ways to pronounce Aoibheann but we like ave - een.

Also what is the correct way to say Ailbe? Ailbhe is al-va but is Ailbe al-ba?

MadameMessy · 03/04/2012 17:18

Think there are too many eeen sounds for me... What about just Aoibh? Am slightly biased as i have one :) but is really lovely

MadameMessy · 03/04/2012 19:13

What about dualta?

smongesmonge · 03/04/2012 20:29

We both love the name Aoibh! My DH is actually pushing for Eve as a girls name so I suggested using Aoibh but he is very keen on the simpleness of eve instead. But it is so beautiful. Just saw their is an Irish girls names thread too!
