Def Madeline oe Madeleine.

Madelyn looks illiterate made up.

squoosh · 16/03/2012 12:53

Madelyn looks like you made a child called Lyn.

bigkidsdidit · 16/03/2012 12:55

I would say Madeleine

mayanna123 · 16/03/2012 14:06

To me:

Madeline = Madd-eh-leen
Madeleine = Madd-eh-layne
Madelyn = Madd-eh-lyn

Amongst English speakers (i.e. not French) Madelyn will be the easiest to pronounce with not mis-pronunciations.

smokeandglitter · 16/03/2012 14:25

Madeline = Madd-eh-line (as in the children's film's pronunciation)

Madeleine = Madd-eh-lane

^^Or either being pron. "Madd-eh-Leen"

Madelyn = Madd-eh-lyn

:) Lovely names though!

sonniebonnie · 16/03/2012 14:33

Agree that for English speakers Madelyn is the easiest/clearest spelling.

I've heard Madeline as Mad-eh-lyne.

Madeleine

LondonNadiy · 16/03/2012 15:59

laptopcomputer · 16/03/2012 23:24

Madeleine

Madelyn looks made up, sorry.

sashh · 17/03/2012 03:34

please please please do not saddle your child with an odd spelling of a normal name - you have no ifea the trauma of having to correct evey teacher. Then as you get older when you apply for a bank account, a credit card, a job you still have to spell it.

To add insult to injury, your other children have normal spellings, at some stage someone will buy someyhing for your children with their names on, but unless they have something made then your youngest will get something else

can you tell I had a non standard spelling of my nane - until I changed it.Wink

Madeline is a lovely name.

ED1984 · 17/03/2012 05:33

Definitely Madeline

agora1 · 17/03/2012 08:04

Madeleine preferably or Madeline

ChippyMinton · 17/03/2012 08:41

OP, you don't think it's a bit similar to Lilian, do you?

LondonNadiy · 17/03/2012 16:57

I don't think its at all similar to Lillian Chippy, why do you?

ChippyMinton · 17/03/2012 17:04

I do, when both are used together in their full versions. Not a problem if shortened, as Maddy and Lily are obviously very different.
Just wondered if the OP had noticed or if it was just me Smile

OriginalJamie · 17/03/2012 17:18

Madelyn sounds made up

PineappleBed · 17/03/2012 17:20

Madeleine or madeline

Madelyn looks made up or like you didn't check the spelling

OTheHugeManatee · 17/03/2012 17:22

Not the one with the Y in, for the same reason as everyone else.
