Roman or Rhodri?

DH and I have chosen either

Roman Elwyn
Or
Rhodri Francis

for our next bundle of joy (if it is a boy!), due in two weeks.

We both like both names, I prefer Rhodri and DH prefers Roman. I prefer Rhodri as I'm welsh, and would like to preserve some heritage, I also think it's a lovely name and it has always been our 'top of the list name'. DH prefers Roman and he jokes about calling the baby Roman Brutus Maximus :-D

Part of me hopes the baby is a girl as neither of us is backing down?!

What does everyone think??

depends on what you think of the shortenings. Rod, Rodders etc. Yuck
Roman would be Rom.

AntsMarching · 16/02/2012 17:19

I like Rhodri Elwyn.

But then my DH is welsh and I've been looking for welsh names for dc2 (supposed to be a girl, unless we get a huge surprise). Dd1 has a welsh name.

LaFilleSurLePont · 16/02/2012 17:27

I prefer Roman,but they're both nice.

Bonsoir · 16/02/2012 17:28

Roman is much, much nicer than Rhodri!

JuluLu · 17/02/2012 06:02

Rhodri! Roman is awful. Why would you want to name him after someone who lives in Rome? Might as well call him Londoner or Parisian.

RnB · 17/02/2012 06:09

Love Roman (is top of my list for dc4). Rhodri is ok but nothing amazing

diddl · 17/02/2012 07:17

Roman.

MarjorieAntrobus · 17/02/2012 07:21

Rhodri is great if one of you is Welsh, which you are, so that's fine. What on earth is Roman though? As a name I mean. Apart from Roman Polanski. As somebody else said, why not Londoner or Berliner?

gitinora · 17/02/2012 20:54

Roman

lostinwales · 17/02/2012 20:55

Rhodri is the best boys name ever Grin

sleeplessinderbyshire · 17/02/2012 20:57

I love Rhodri and the nn Roddy is gorgeous for a little boy

lostinwales · 17/02/2012 21:16

Oh and the nn is RHod (like Rhod Gilbert) the H is pronounced so it sounds different to Rod, honest.

Shoopaloop · 17/02/2012 21:30

Roman is better than Rhodri. I despise that name. Urgh! Sorry!

lostinwales · 17/02/2012 21:45
Grin
sleeplessinderbyshire · 17/02/2012 21:51

noooooo, Roman is a really really chavvy name (unless it's for a horse or a dog)

sorry OP but Rhodri is a fab name and Roman is horrible

SecretNutellaFix · 17/02/2012 21:56

Rhodri. Hands down.

mumofjust1 · 17/02/2012 22:09

Rhodri Elwyn I think Smile

PopcornBiscuit · 17/02/2012 23:33

Francis Elwyn, or Roman Francis

TuesdayNightClub · 19/02/2012 12:53

I prefer Roman, by miles. And the "chavvy" comment I couldn't disagree with more... Hmm

usingapseudonym · 19/02/2012 12:58

I know a Rohan which is nice :)

PipTrillPip · 19/02/2012 13:15

Love Rhodri

madaboutmadmen · 25/02/2012 21:20

Definitely Rhodri, Roman sounds like a name a celebrity would call their child.

Rhodri Fawr 877AD King of Gwynedd, Powys and South West Wales.

QuietNinjaLamp · 26/02/2012 07:34

I know a rhodri. Much prefer it to roman. Roman sounds harsher when you say it I think.

suburbandream · 26/02/2012 07:40

I love Rhodri!! To me, Roman sounds like a bit of a poncetastic sleb name sorry!!
