Is Lucy too popular?

Have been ages trying to decide between Lucy and Louisa. Now DD1 has started preschool and two children are called Lucy, plus two boys called Lucas and one called Luke. Is this just an unfortunate coincidence or is the name overused?
Baby has been around for weeks with only a nickname - I feel like I am failing her with my indecision. Nickname is Lulu. It has been suggested that I just go with that name, but it just does not seem right to let her grow up without a grown up name.

I have 3 dcs and don't know a single Lucy in any of their age groups, so I don't think it is too popular. It's a nice name btw, I do know 6 yr old Louisa, like that too. I have a Lulu, or Lottie, short for Charlotte.

Dd is one of only 2 Lucys in a school of 420.

She is in year 4.

I dont know of any Lucys under 9. and then only 1, and she's the daughter of a friend of a friend...
My bf is called Lucy, but she's 37, so that doesnt count does it :)

There are no Lucys in either of my children's school years (total of 80 kids). Just use it if you like it.

I have three kids so know loads of other ones unfortunately. I only know one Lucy and she is nearly 11.

I can only think of two little Lucys.

Thanks everyone! I know it should not be important, but somehow the sight of those little name tags with "Lucy M" and "Lucy B" made my heart sink. My DD has a friend in her kindygym class that she knows as "Ava B".

Lucy was originally a shortened version of Lucinda, wasn't it? How about that or Lucille?

My dog is Lulu short for Tallulah BTW...

And I'm with you on the 'xxx A' or whatever thing. I hated being 'hubbahubster H' at school.

I have a Lucy. She's always been the only one in her class.

It doesn't particularly bother me anyway though, if you like it, use it.
It's a gorgeous name and I've never regretted giving it to dd.

Hate my first name, especially since one of the shortened versions is often a name on its own, so there are LOADS of girls with the same/similar name.

Lucy is a great name. You don't want to regret not going with your heart in a few years.

Lucy is a great name. I know three; an 8 yr old, 2 yr old and a 3 yr old. Doesn't put me off tbh. Please choose the name you love or you might regret it later..you can't control how many there may or may not be in a potential class when they're at school/nursery... lulu is a lovely nn too

I'm a Lucy and have always liked it. I have 2 kids and don't know any little Lucy's, none in ds' class or school that I know of and certainly none in dds preschool. I've never been a fan of Louise/a. Good luck in choosing

Dd would have been Lucy except mil stupidly named her do it years ago. it's a beautiful name

We have a Lucia, but she gets called Lulu. It suits her.
Can pronounce it two ways, ours is the Italian (Maltese way) Lu-che-ya, or spanish Lu-si-aa.

I have got 4 dc and don't know any Lucy's under the age of 30. I know loads 30+ though. I know quite a few small Luca's and one Louise age 4, but no Louisa's.

There are four Lucy's in our preschool class of 24. Quite a posh area, does that mean it'll be popular in a couple of years time?

We have a Leah whose nn is also Lulu.

I know 5 Lucy's off the top of my head - ages are 8,3,3,1,2 days.

I really like the name - its timeless and it isn't one of those names that I would think mattered if there was more than one in a year.

I grew up with quite a few (late twenties) but don't hear it so often now.

I know a few - it's not unusual but certainly not faddy so I wouldn't worry - a pretty/feminine timeless name. I prefer it to Louisa too!

Lucy is a much older name than Lucinda, which is a fancification of Lucy/Lucia.

I think Lucy has fallen a little recently in popularity, but is still more prevalent than Louisa. OTOH, Louisa may be the Next BigThing, who can tell!

If you choose Louisa, Lucy is still a feasible pet name, so she could have the best of both worlds.
