Horrible, sorry!

candytuft63 · 28/01/2012 11:07

Hmmm ....i prefer Mabel.

nagynolonger · 28/01/2012 11:09

The only one I know is 70+ and there are much nicer old lady names. It's not as bad as Hilda or Gertrude.

emsyj · 28/01/2012 11:09

I have a really thoroughly unpleasant great aunt called Muriel and she is a vicious hag. So for me it's a big no-no.

But then I love Muriel's Wedding.... Confused. How about Mariel? Grin

Love Jemima, by the way - tis on my list if we have another DD.

Nagoo · 28/01/2012 11:10

I like Mabel more too.

And you'd get you're terrible ALL the time.

nagynolonger · 28/01/2012 11:12

Is aunty Mable still on the TV?

Emma and Jemima are lovely why not have Muriel for a middle name.

misshoohaa · 28/01/2012 11:17

Sorry - not a good choice. Jemima is lovely though.

Faverolles · 28/01/2012 11:19

I like Mabel too.
Muriel makes me think "You're terrible Muriel" (in an australian accent) every time I hear it.

ScoutJemAndBoo · 28/01/2012 11:26

Horrible, but Miriam is nice

CecilyP · 28/01/2012 11:31

Horrible.

lisaro · 28/01/2012 11:32

No!

Montsti · 28/01/2012 14:34

Hideous..

DexterTheCat · 28/01/2012 14:38

Hideous. Meriel??? Much nicer.

Bluestocking · 28/01/2012 14:42

Awful. Meriel or Meryl? Mariella? Marilla, like Anne of Green Gable's adoptive aunt? Jemima is lovely!

I like it! More personality than Mabel.

Also like Miriam, Marla, Mary.

pilates · 28/01/2012 17:34

Awful, especially as Jemima is so pretty.

How about Madeleine, Lucy or Esme?

FaithHopeAndKevin · 28/01/2012 17:47

No. But then my shitbag step-grandmother was a Muriel.

Meryl is great.

JekyllandHydeMum · 28/01/2012 18:02

I was at school with a Muriel who was known as "Manuriel"

ellesabe · 28/01/2012 18:18

Ha ha! So that's pretty much unanimous then! I'll bin that idea and toy with the idea of Meryl instead :)

What Faverolles said.

ThePoorMansBeckySharp · 28/01/2012 19:12

This is about the worst name you could possibly give a child. Seriously it is just hideous.

carben · 28/01/2012 20:17

I think it's actually a lovely name it just seems to have 'old bag' connotations. If you just say the name it's quite melodic and not at all harsh like Ethel. Due a comeback I would say !
