Even if you never used it, I'd make Tilly short for Matilda just to give your DD choices when she's older.
Tilly Jane?

belgo · 27/01/2012 14:09

Not sure if you mean Jae or Jea? Or Jane?

TuesdayNightClub · 27/01/2012 14:14

Matilda Jane is roughly 1 x million times better than Tilly Jae in my opinion! Tilly is a really good nickname but I like Matilda as a full name.

sasslejaney84 · 27/01/2012 14:17

We have 2 janes in the family already... I have an aunt called jane, a cousin and its a middle name for me and OH's eldest... So that's out as OH doesn't want any repeated names!! Akward beggar that he is!!

By Jae, its a different spelling of Jay,

I'm not so keen on Matilda but it may be a name that grows on me!!

Jae is very tacky and made up.

belgo · 27/01/2012 14:19

It would be nice to use Jane if it's a family name.

sasslejaney84 · 27/01/2012 14:23

lisaro thank you!!! This is what I've been saying for days!!

belgo I've been thinking that too but OH is adamant he does not want any 'repeated' names

Awful, awful, awful. Imagone your daughter as a 40 year old barrister and having to introduce herself as 'Tilly Jae'.

belgo · 27/01/2012 14:25

Sometimes I think the father should be banned from having any input!

sasslejaney84 · 27/01/2012 14:26

tuesday I'm liking it, Matilda Jane... Hhmmm! Shall have to see what OH thinks later!!

I dislike both names. Sorry. I especially dislike Jae, and would be gutted that my sister had a nice middle name (May). I am also fairly sure that Jae is a boys name (?) might be wrong though.
I really dislike Tilly (and Millie and all the other y/ie names), I think Matilda would be better. She owuld then have a choice over what she is known as.
Matilda Jane is much better - and lovely that Jane is a family name.

sasslejaney84 · 27/01/2012 14:28

So do I!! My DD's idiot father INSISTED we call our baby boy (turned out to be the DD, thank goodness! Jack Daniel!

I think Matilda is growing rapidly on me!!

I really like Matilda, we considered it if we had been carrying a DD, as it stands its a DS so won't get to use it Sad

Blatherskite · 27/01/2012 14:33

Tilly Jae/Jea is awful.

Remind him he's naming a child who will one day be an adult - not a dog!

sasslejaney84 · 27/01/2012 14:39

icook don't know what we are having however, boys names are off the table for now, i have a few ideas and hopefully he will not come up with stupid names

blather you don't even want to know the names he suggested for the dog!!

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 27/01/2012 14:40

Plus he could still nickname her Tilly J if he wanted to.

Blatherskite · 27/01/2012 14:40

Was it 'Rebecca' Grin

sasslejaney84 · 27/01/2012 14:45

empress here's hoping I can get Matilda past him!! Don't even want to think about boys names yet!! That's so going to wait until I'm just about to drop!

sasslejaney84 · 27/01/2012 14:47

blather nope, it was names of cars!! Its a yorkshire Terrier!! You can't exactly be stood in the field shouting for 'renault'!!! (Actually his favourite!)

There must be other middle names apart from May, Jae and Jane.

If you are after one syllable, what about Eve, Ann, Claire.........

Matilda Ann....?

MamaLazarou · 27/01/2012 15:25

Tilly Jae is awful, sorry. Matilda is cute and has a modern sound. Matilda Jay?

Blu · 27/01/2012 15:32

Tilly is nice. Matilda is nice.
Why do children have to have middle names if nothing springs out at you?
DS does not have a middle name.

sasslejaney84 · 27/01/2012 15:53

Personally, I do like Matilda Jane or Matilda Jay...

Thank you all!! X

BillyBollyBandy · 27/01/2012 15:56

Matilda Joy?

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/01/2012 16:35

Tilly Jae sounds like a stripper! Matilda Jay or Matilda Jane (or Jayne, even?) is really nice, with Tilly as a nickname.
