Tilly Jae sounds scally (sorry).

I do like Matilda Joy as was just suggested, that's very pretty.

You might want to check how popular Matilda/Mathilda is though in terms of registered births last year as I am pretty sure it is moving up the list, although obviously that depends if you are bothered about that.

I like Tilda as a NN for Matilda. Bit ricey tho'.

Tillyscoutsmum · 27/01/2012 17:52

I have a Matilda (who is mostly known as Tilly/Tils or Tildy at the moment). I do think a one syllable middle name works well but I think the problem with Tilly Mae/Jae/Rae type combinations is that they sound a bit .....errrrrmmmm..... tacky.

I like Fay/e, Faith, Kate, Grace (albeit its a bit too popular), Maeve, Niamh, Rose (ditto Grace), Hope and Bree. We ended up with Matilda Scout Smile

sasslejaney84 · 27/01/2012 17:57

Ooh Matilda joy is nice!!

cheshire I'm not so bothered about how popular the name is, its going to have to be cleared with my SIL tho, as she is PG with twins!!

TSM I like grace and Niemh but my OH has veto'd them :-( why did I give him those??

No Tilly as a NN for Matilda is lovely, but not Jae

mathanxiety · 27/01/2012 18:20

Joy and Fay are both lovely. Jay or Jae are not.

How about Kay?
Or
Maeve
Paige
Sage
June
Jean
Rose
Gail
Pearl
Ruth

QueenOfProcrastination · 27/01/2012 18:23

If you want Matilda J... but not Jane then how about:

Matilda Joan
Matilda Joanne / Joanna
Matilda Jennifer
Matilda Jessica
Matilda Julia / Julie
Matilda Josie / Josephine
Matilda Juliet

sloppyjoe · 27/01/2012 18:29

our tillie is nn for (never used) Natalie, as we didn't like Matilda. Wanted her to have a 'proper' name for when she is a barrister/bank manager!!

sasslejaney84 · 27/01/2012 18:30

I do like Matilda Joanne...

All names to put to the OH!!

Not a fan of Tilly but it's better than Matilda on its own.

Matilda Jane/Joanne/Juliet all OK.

Other M names... Marina, Marianne, Miriam.

Smugfearnleyshittingstool · 27/01/2012 19:03

No, it's wrong, poor girl.

ThePoorMansBeckySharp · 28/01/2012 03:07

I'm sorry but I think Tilly Jae is utterly awful.

TuesdayNightClub · 28/01/2012 10:41

Matilda Joy is lovely!

pilates · 28/01/2012 10:50

Tilly Jae - awful

Matilda Jane/Joy - lovely

Kaekae · 29/01/2012 21:17

It would be Matilda for me with Tilly as NN I would also drop the Jae, sounds really chav.

justhayley · 30/01/2012 19:07

I love Tilly reminds me of a well travelled really pretty slightly boho girl, Tilly Jae is nice but could be too hippy if she goes onto have a more serious less creative job. Depends on the surname I guess

How about Tilly Alexandra
Tilly Elizabeth
something like that to make it slightly more serious.
Think Tilly Jae is destined to be a writer, musician, actress - not a strippers name!

X

scottishmummy · 30/01/2012 19:23

Tilly jea is ghastly, too poncey and affected. Really it's trying too hard
Why not Matilda and use tilly as Diminiutive
Matilda Jayne?

EirikurNoromaour · 31/01/2012 16:16

Tilly Jae makes me physically cringe. Just no.

Matilda Jane, Matilda Jennifer, Matilda Rose, Matilda Joy, Matilda Jo?
