What names are the most chavvy do you think?

OP posts:

RobinSparkles · 22/01/2012 18:06

This won't end well!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 22/01/2012 18:07

I don't know OP - what do you think are chavvy?

AKissIsNotAContract · 22/01/2012 18:10

I really hate that term. Perhaps you should read this book:
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/184467696X/ref=aw_d_detail?pd=1

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 22/01/2012 18:21

Why are you so worried?
Anyway names that are considered acceptable now could well be chavvy in a few years time.

The lower classes will insist on aping their betters. Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2012 18:24

I am going to be brave and say I am not a fan of unusual spellings for normal names. That, to me is a bit chavvy.

MamaMaiasaura · 22/01/2012 18:25

Ummm this is going to go tits up

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2012 18:27

Everyone should call their baby whatever they like. People have opinions but as long as you are happy with it, it is not necessary to check with everyone else is it?

ThePathanKhansWitch · 22/01/2012 18:29

Why are you so bothered?. Chavvy horrible expression. Class up FFS op.

LynetteScavo · 22/01/2012 18:30

Well, what names do you think are chavvy, OP?

meditrina · 22/01/2012 18:31

Could you explain what you mean by "chavvy" in this context? Thanks.

really poor, OP

Winnie78 · 22/01/2012 19:24

Goodness, one or two of you have been horribly spiteful. The OP may have asked a question that you feel is inappropriate. In that case, ignore it. Don't bully under the mask of online anonymity. That's just shameful. OP, the term chav means very different things to different people. If you're worried about your name ideas, perhaps check out something like nameberry. It's American but has loads of name info... Smile Good luck!

ThePathanKhansWitch · 22/01/2012 19:40

It's a bloody public forum. OP ASKED, was told.

LynetteScavo · 22/01/2012 19:43

I think names beginning with w and ending in two digits are frightfully common. Wink

Winnie78 · 22/01/2012 19:48

Oh me too Lynette! I've been trying to shake it off for the last 30 odd years...

jaffacakehips · 22/01/2012 19:52

Seriously I don't get it...why is it that when a thread mentioning anything to do with 'chav' people generally slams the OP, yet threads on "Posh' names are fair game. Hmm

jaffacakehips · 22/01/2012 20:00

Wolly check out this thread

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 22/01/2012 20:12

Posh names fair game?

On MN?

Really?

I have seen loads of threads cooing over Persephonie and Humphrey.
I think they are perfectly fine names but they are most definately posh and MNers love them.

RobinSparkles · 22/01/2012 20:17

Yeah, but the thing is JaffaCake, if someone was to come on here and list my DC's names as being posh, it wouldn't bother me. I might even be pleased.

If someone was to come and say that my DC's names were "chavvy" I would be mortified and maybe offended.

These kinds of threads always annoy people because people come on slagging off their DC's names and it gets upsetting.

If somebody starts a thread saying, "what does everyone think of the name Tarquin? We're thinking of using it, please give opinions," then it's fair game for someone to say, "Tarquin is shit, please don't use it, it's child abuse!"

But to start a thread for people to come on and start calling names "chavvy" is a bit nasty IMHO.

scarlettsmummy2 · 22/01/2012 20:17

Ok, I will bight the bullet- names i personally find chavvy are- Ashton, Baillie, Reilly, Cole, Chelsea, Harper, Romeo, Cruz, Princess.

I am a snob, apologies

RobinSparkles · 22/01/2012 20:19

I have nothing against the name Tarquin, btw. I was just using it as an example, it was the first name I could think of.

Newtothisstuff · 22/01/2012 20:24

I think names can sound chavvy when different people say them.. I was planning on calling my first DD Ellie until I heard my vile exmil say it in her vile common accent.. Put me off completely !!!

Ok, I know I will get flamed for this, but where I live hyphenated christian names are considered a bit NOCD. And I'm with the poster who mentioned alternative spellings - I find them a bit try too hard.
