Chivonne?!

BIL wants to call the baby Chivonne.

I said "oh Siobhan, how lovely" - but no, apparently Chivonne is 'a different name' and he doesn't like she spelling of Siobhan.

I am catsbumming but I'm an old lady - is it a name 'in its own right' or is it a misspelling?

midnightexpress · 12/12/2011 20:25

I am catsbumming along with you I'm afraid. It sounds like some sort of man-made fibre.

MummysLovesSanta · 12/12/2011 20:25

He's 'aving a larf.

yousankmybattleship · 12/12/2011 20:27

GOOD GOD, WOMAN, NO Stop this insanity.

felicitywits · 12/12/2011 20:28

He is not joking. I thought it might be american (don't hit me, american mumsnetters). It does exist on baby name websites and stuff.

But - it's just Siobhan spelt wrong? I think?

CrotchFlakes · 12/12/2011 20:30

I see you your catsbumface and headshake and raise you a sharp intake of breath through clenched teeth.

KittieCat · 12/12/2011 20:30

I'm not an old lady and cats bumming all the way here, too! Don't think it has anything to do with age. It's simply not good...

SantasNutellaFairy · 12/12/2011 20:31

It's someone trying too hard to be "yooneek"

shesparkles · 12/12/2011 20:31

Isn't he thinking of CHAVonne? Wink

AnotherMincepie · 12/12/2011 20:32

Chivonne is related to Siobhan, yes. The meaning is "God is gracious". And Siobhan is derived from Joan, the feminine form of John.

nokissymum · 12/12/2011 20:32

Its a name is its own right, but correct usual spelling is "Shivonne".

felicitywits · 12/12/2011 20:34

What do I do?! Don't want to make DSis cry.

Siobhan-spelt-properly is a no (he sounded it out, you know "see-ob-han", it would be 'confusing') - can anyone think of a name which sounds similar-ish??

Or should I just concentrate on the middle name? Because so far it's not very good either (Angel or Martine). I could drop hints after using DMum's name as a middle (it's Clara).

Shivonne?! Dear lord that's worse - makes me think of prison shivs!

Get0rf · 12/12/2011 20:36

lolol at prison shivs.

Make DSIS cry, it's the only way.

Tell her she is married to a fool.

lilibet · 12/12/2011 20:36

I see you your catsbumface and headshake and your sharp intake of breath through clenched teeth and raise you eyes and eyebrows heavenward.

Don't let them do it to the poor child

lljkk · 12/12/2011 20:37

Chardonay?

Okay, seriously: Shelia, Shelley, Shona, Shannon, Shawn (Sian).
Clara is gorgeous imho :).

EatMeDates · 12/12/2011 20:40

Oh HELL NO.

I actually know a grown man called Chivon. His parents heard the name and thought it was a boy's name and really liked it.

Poor fucking guy.

nokissymum · 12/12/2011 20:41
