Alannah? What's your thoughts?

So up until now baby due last week if she is a she we were thinking Annabel or Arabella these have been around from the start then all of a sudden somebody, think it was DH, suggested Alannah, DD likes it, DH likes it DM likes it i like it but i'm not good with hasty decisions, I don't adore it but then i'm not allowed have the names I love as DH doesn't like them. What does everyone else think?

I like it. Much better than Annabel or Arabella. It's s lovely name.

Gorgeous name. Pretty, unusual, and would suit a little girl and a woman.

Love it, was on my short list for DD2. It's a term of endearment for "child" in Ireland too.

I should add that all of her friends call her Lani which i've also grown to love!
Great name and not very common.

A La nah is how we would pronounce it, i'm Irish and it's far more common there than here. I like the way you have spelled it Cheeky, does she have difficulty with people asking the spelling? we have to spell our surname and i'd hate for her to have to spell both all the time.

I have a friend with an Elana, and think that is beautiful too.

The only minor problem we have had is that people leave the H off which is easily sorted! We pronounce the middle bit Larn as in barn, Errrr, but then we are farmerish in the South west.
She absolutely loves her name so i got something right. I've had loads of compliments over the years.
Its a beautiful name.

Really like Elana but it's very similar to my DMs name and as it's looking like this baby may be born on her birthday, it would tip her over the edge of thinking the baby was hers if we gave her a similar name. She actually suggested when dd was born that we hyphenate her surname with my mums surname as she doesn't have a child with her name, she's divorced from my dad . ishoos

It trips of the tongue nicely but the spelling is a bit flowery. My friend's two year old is Alana, which seems a bit less girly but still nice.

I know one Alana (age 14) and one Alannah (age 8) and they are both ponounced the same (Uh - lah - nuh)

Am in the minority, but I hate dislike it.

My fil is Alan, so it makes me think of his age range, blokey names, bit like Brian(a) or Nigel(la) or Colin(a).

Heh, i love it and am also humming Black Velvet. I really liked Alannah Myles. Btw, i would assume that the double n gives a flat "lann" sound, not a "lahn" sound.

My DD is Alana (2.5) as my family are Irish. Lanabug (her knickname) is a Gaelic term of endearment. Generally I love it, although our GP did ask if her dad was called Alan when we registered her, and toddlers to tend to call her "nana" which is often mistaken for toddler speak for banana...

Not fond, personally. A bit fussy for me.
