It suddenly dawned on me today that it is actually a nice name.

Quick internet search it is a 'proper' names as well.

Am I being ridiculous? It isn't that different from calling your DD Emerald or Amber or Cherry or Jade? is it?

The only thing is with Abney and Teal being popular on cbeebies these days it might come across a bit like calling your child 'Igglepiggle' iyswim... but other than that I do kinda like it, cos I like the colour teal and the sound is quite nice

SpanglyGiraffe · 05/12/2011 21:09

As soon as I heard the tv programme Abney & Teal I fell in love with Teal too! I think it's a beautiful name Smile

YouCantTeuchThis · 05/12/2011 21:13

I know someone called Teal - a fully grown person - s'nice Smile

pictish · 05/12/2011 21:14

I love it ----BUT it's very NOW what with Abney and Teal on Cbeebies which has been a big hit with parents.
I'd avoid.

pictish · 05/12/2011 21:17

How about Cerise? Or Umber?

PludolphTheRedNosedReindeer · 05/12/2011 21:23

My DS was entranced to learn, today, that "Teal" was a colour! Smile And a nice one, too...

AnotherMincepie · 05/12/2011 21:23

I like it :)

A1980 · 05/12/2011 21:31

My first thought was sounds like squeal

TheSpreadingChestnutTree · 05/12/2011 21:36

My ds would be sooo impressed to meet a real life Teal. I'm not sure what I think of it as a name tbh. I don't hate it, but I don't love it.

EdithWeston · 05/12/2011 21:40

My first thought was of the duck (whose wing-colour gave the name to the shade), so I don't see it like other colour names (and indeed would have expected it to be a boys name - though Duckie in NCIS was named from Mallard as a surname).

manicinsomniac · 05/12/2011 21:44

I know a dog called Teal. Not sure why as it's a very ordinary black dog colour!

It's quite pretty though

Surf25 · 05/12/2011 21:52

I like it, like the colour, like the name, think its very pretty and unusual but not unheard of iykwim but I guess there is the risk of everyone at the moment associating it with cbeebies (if they have kids) - quite possibly that doesn't bother you and tbh I dont know if it would bother me... Smile

VeronicaSpeedwell · 05/12/2011 23:25

I would think of the duck, sorry.

nooka · 06/12/2011 05:33

It doesn't sound like a person to me - I'd have no idea if it was for a boy or a girl. I don't think it is ridiculous, just a bit odd.

lljkk · 06/12/2011 05:41

It's a duck. That was my first thought. Or a colour.

JamieComeHome · 06/12/2011 05:46

Elephant's Breath?

SardineJam · 06/12/2011 13:21

I think its really pretty, but like previous posters, I do think it will rise in popularity

hellokitty123 · 06/12/2011 13:22

Never heard of it, but it sounds quite 'masculine' so why not?

JollyBear · 06/12/2011 13:41

I know of a girl called Teal.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 06/12/2011 14:26

I also know a couple of named their daughter after a particular shade of blue, not in common use as a first name. They announced it before she was born, and everyone said 'like the colour?'. At first they liked that and nodded enthusiastically, but before she was 3 months old they had switched to using her middle name. Obviously just one example, but I'd think hard about what it will really be like (and of course everyone will ask the child the same question for their whole life).

elephantsgomarching · 08/12/2011 18:27

I really like it (wonders if there is an urdu version....)

KatAndKit · 08/12/2011 18:37

It's not a name it's a colour. To me it's no different than naming a baby "yellow" or "magenta".

sparkle12mar08 · 08/12/2011 21:07

Colour, duck.

I love the colour but it's not a name to me.

gaunyerseljeannie · 09/12/2011 23:11

Colour duck or dog ( gun dogs often called this cos they collect the duck)
Up to you though Grin

cazboldy · 09/12/2011 23:14

I also know of a girl called Teal..... (wonders if it's the same one as JollyBear?)
