I think it partly depends on your surname. If your surname is Smith, it's a bit plain. If your surname is Fancywansydoodletingsmythe, then James Alexander is a lovely name. James is a good name by itself in any case though.

I agree - it depends on the surname. James Smith or James Jones will have to share his name with lots and lots of others, while James Hullabaloo will be more memorable.

Good, classic, distinctive name. There was /is a James Alexander Gordon on the radio - Gordon being the surnmame.
