For a boy. Is this turning too girly? I am starting to really, really like it. Simple, short, strong, and I think it grows well. Opinions would be welcome Smile

BTW really not a fan of Quentin before anyone suggests that (have gathered it's popular on this board). Would be just Quinn, not a nickname for anything.

I thought it was a girls name...?!

LoveInAColdClimate · 29/11/2011 08:08

Like Quinn the Eskimo? I like it.

mrsstaypuftman · 29/11/2011 08:24

Love it, go for it.

Montsti · 29/11/2011 09:22

I like it and only know one Quinn (a boy!)...

ThatllDoPig · 29/11/2011 09:26

Everyone who watches glee will know Quinn as a girls name.

There is a boy called Finn on it too! Which fills your description of simple and strong. And definatly a boy.

WifiNappies · 29/11/2011 09:28

Quinn is also the female helper person in the addictive iPhone game 'Wedding Dash' Grin

I really like it for either gender though

JustifiedAncientOfMuMu · 29/11/2011 09:40

I know a boy Quinn. I think it's unisex.

MrsRhettButler · 29/11/2011 09:42

Ooooh, Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman! Grin

mopsyflopsy · 29/11/2011 10:46

Love it for a boy - in fact we have one Smile!

poppydaisy · 29/11/2011 10:51

I like it a lot - it sounds very masculine, like Finn.

(find it very harsh/unfeminine for a girl!)

rachel234 · 29/11/2011 10:58

I think Sharon Stone's son is a Quinn. I quite like it - strong, simple and masculine!

mayanna123 · 29/11/2011 11:03

Love Quinn - definately a boys' name imo. Think it means 'wisdom', so has a lovely meaning too.

CuppaTeaJanice · 29/11/2011 11:08

It's a bit too similar to Quim for my liking. Makes me think of an unpleasant poem about quim jelly that was popular at school.

RoyalWelsh · 29/11/2011 11:10

There is a female Quinn in One Tree Hill

I really like the name, but as a girls name I think. Finn is lovely though.

juneau · 29/11/2011 11:14

I have a (boy) Quinn, born before f*ing Glee turned it into a girl's name! I love it too - it's very simple, everyone can spell and pronounce it, he can spell it easily (he's 4), and it's still unusual in this country.

comedaygoday · 29/11/2011 11:34

Sorry, I don't like it. I don't like surnames used as first names which this is and I think Quinn is particularly bad because it sounds too like quim.

bigbluebump · 29/11/2011 12:50

I love Quinn but am biased as we have a (boy) one Smile.

bigbluebump · 29/11/2011 12:51

He's actually a Quentin, but often gets called Quinn or Quen/Quenny.

tootssweet · 29/11/2011 12:58

I love Quinn as a boys name and it was very nearly ds's until my mum did the cats bum face about it (wish I'd stuck to my guns about it - though I do like the name we now have too!)

Fishpond · 29/11/2011 17:05

I have never heard of Quim so that doesn't bother me in the least.

Yes, there is a girl Quinn on Glee but really? Confused

Dr. Quinn medicine woman = her last name was Quinn, not her first name Grin

Quinn definitely started as a boy's name and yes, is being used for girls now but that doesn't make it a girl's name - it makes it unisex, and definitely was male to start with.

I have never heard of quim either Confused - doesn't bother me either.

I think the sound of Quinn, like Finn, is very masculine and harsh.

For a girl, Quintina perhaps Grin

Fishpond · 29/11/2011 18:16

Finn is exceedingly popular where I live, so I wouldn't use that - and also reminds me of a fish fin (I have a thing for fish as you can tell from my screenname!) Smile

Love Quinn - my nephew is one Smile.

lottiegb · 30/11/2011 07:29

Better as a boy's name than a girl's (and why should we take any notice of American trends - though they do travel, e.g. Erin, Irish bloke or American girl) but still a surname.

You might not be familiar with quim but people many people who will hear the name are. More of a problem for a girl.
