Nice name but would spell it Myles.

thesurgeonsmate · 31/10/2011 12:04

It seems to get a bit of negativity on here from people who think it's a word not a name. I don't get it - to me it's a name, it's the name of the personification of cool Miles Davis. What's not to like?

ShesAStar · 31/10/2011 12:26

My husband's middle name is Myles and I think it sounds great as a middle name. It goes with nearly every other name you can think of (not beginning with M).

kenobi · 31/10/2011 12:29

My DH's name is Miles (not a fan of the Myles spelling myself) and it's fab.

Also he never gets jokes about his name, or if he does it's someone saying the phrase accidentally and then going 'Miles away! hah ha!" it's not like calling your child Mike Hunt, it's pretty inoffensive Wink

Lonnie · 31/10/2011 12:36

I always liked it as a name.

bonklesoul · 31/10/2011 13:45

My son is called Myles. It's a great name

SaffronCake · 31/10/2011 13:55

Being a word in the dictionary never stopped Lily, Ruby and Grace becoming some of the most popular names of recent years. For boys I can also think of Victor, Angel, Mark, Heath and Leo. I once met a boy called Dash.

Loads of names are words.

Miles/Myles is lovely, I hope you aren't put off.

othersideofchannel · 31/10/2011 14:47

If you're in the UK (where distance is measured in Miles) I wouldn't name a child Miles. It is like calling a child Kilometres on the Continent Grin.

In other words, because miles is such a common word in the UK it could be confusing using it as a name (unlike the other names on Safron's list).

FunnysInTheGarden · 31/10/2011 14:52

I don't get this either. Miles is an actual proper name. DS1's best friend is called Miles and it never occured to me to think of his name as a measure of distance and not a proper name. BTW I also think it is a lovely name and to me Miles and not Myles is the proper spelling.

mopsyflopsy · 31/10/2011 15:20

I personally find it too metric, sorry. There are far nicer names imo.

Fixture · 31/10/2011 15:21

I like it (with the spelling Miles).

lettinggo · 31/10/2011 15:31

@mopsyflopsy, don't you mean it's too imperial? Grin

frutilla · 31/10/2011 16:16

I prefer the Miles spelling.

LaFilleSurLePont · 31/10/2011 16:33

Love it.

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 31/10/2011 16:39

I like it, but don't ponce around spelling it Myles. Miles is absolutely fine.

WestsAwake · 31/10/2011 16:40

Prefer Miles. Nice name.

MrsRetchingBloodAndGuts · 31/10/2011 16:45

I love it I think it's cool, it's my Dads name :)

I cant believe my granny chose it actually as I don't think it 'goes' with his brothers names, Timothy and Richard.

MrsRetchingBloodAndGuts · 31/10/2011 16:47

I can't see it actually being confusing, you'd have to be pretty silly to be able to confuse something like that, I mean it's just a name... Of a person, not space on a road. Confused

wigglesrock · 31/10/2011 16:49

My friend has a Myles, there's never been any "distance" jokes and he's in his third year of primary school.

kenobi · 31/10/2011 17:30

Yep, DH has never found anyone confusing him with a road. He's 35 btw.

People are pretty good about that sort of thing Grin, and it's not like it isn't a traditional, long-standing English name.

Sparklingbrook · 31/10/2011 17:37

My friend's son is called Miles. I have always thought it was a great name. Smile

birdofthenorth · 31/10/2011 19:53

Like it. Like Milo too -gets trashed on here though!

eurycantha · 31/10/2011 20:12

I know two miles 12 and 6 years .1ve never heard any distance jokes .One is sometimes smiley Miley.

DialMforMummy · 31/10/2011 20:37

I love it. I am not allowed to consider it for future DC as DH dislikes it Angry.

3isamagicnumber · 02/11/2011 14:57

Dont like it, sorry! Sounds too poncy for me.
