Trying to decide on DC2's name and struggling. We have a DS called Jude and I love this name: not weird but not über-popular and suits all ages. This is the goal for DD but it's hard! Plus, Jude was my choice and DH reckons his vote should take precedence this time....

What are you honest thoughts on these and do you have any other suggestions?
The middle name will be Jane.

Tallulah (DH's favourite)
Delilah
Ophelia
Estella
Cora
Miranda

Thanks.

Love Delilah, can't stand Miranda I'm afraid. I have never "got" Tallulah, I'm with LaFilleSurLePont on that one. You clearly have a list, but have you considered Delphina? Seems to fit with your list. (nn Delphie).

natsmum100 · 26/10/2011 17:46

Tallulah - Bugsy Malone
Delilah - not keen
Ophelia - not a happy ending
Estella - LOVE this name. One of my all time favourites
Cora - lovely, but becoming popular
Miranda - okay

comedaygoday · 26/10/2011 17:51

Sorry but the only one of your names I like is Miranda and I really dislike Tallulah and Delilah.

NadiaWadia · 26/10/2011 17:58

I like them all except Cora and Ophelia,

Tallulah and Delilah are both names which call for big personalities though, so to be on the safe side I'd personally go for Estella or Miranda - pretty and slightly unusual names.

blue2711 · 26/10/2011 20:35

Thanks so much for all your comments, really appreciated. I'm actually really glad that some of you do like Tallulah - I was worried it would get more of the lap dancer comments! DH really does love it and I am tempted.

A few of you seem to think that none on our short list really goes with Jude. Any other suggestions at all? I want it to go with Jane and not be everywhere, something elegant and feminine.

Thanks again.

Emmeline Jane
Claudia Jane
Evangeline Jane
Violet Jane

Sorry Tallulah doesn't sound elegant

Bubbaluv · 27/10/2011 07:09

oooh Claudia is great!

Bubbaluv · 27/10/2011 07:12

Tamsin
Thomasina
Sybilla
Camilla
Ciara
Nicola
Lucinda
Alice - Alice and Jude sounds good together

EssieW · 27/10/2011 07:21

Cora is nice but cara is nicer I think. Don't like the others but wondered about stella?
Melissa similar feel to the others.
Feels like you need a shorter girls name to go with Jude - Alice, Laura, Zoe, Zara, Kate, Ellen

Bloodredrubyblue · 27/10/2011 09:19

Charlotte Jane
Leonie Jane
Alexandria Jane
Katherine Jane
Perdita Jane
Louisa Jane

Imogen Jane
Emily Jane

RefereezaWanka · 27/10/2011 10:33

No to Tallulah and Delilah. Way OTT, fussy and cartoonish.

I like the sound of Ophelia but for me it is the tragic, mad character in Hamlet. I could never get past that I'm afraid.

I love Cora. Simple, feminine, pretty without being fussy.

Estella is also nice, although I prefer Stella.

Miranda is a very grown up sort of name. I like it.

LaTristesse · 27/10/2011 10:38

Yeah have to say I think I'm with your DH on this one - Tallulah is by far my fave from your list, and goes nicely with Jane.

Catsycat · 27/10/2011 11:38

Miranda or Estella are lovely. I think they sound nice with Jane (and alongside Jude). I think they are quite sophisticated, and not just "little girl" names.

I wasn't going to say why I don't like Tallulah, but as LaFille has said it already, I would just say I agree....:) Cora sounds like an exclamation to me, and it always reminds me of Dr Crippen (OK, a bit obscure, but his wife was called Cora, and that's what pops into my head every time I hear it)!!!!!

muffinino82 · 27/10/2011 11:59

Tallulah - Not keen, too frilly
Delilah - I like the name but it makes makes me think of the song. On the plus side, if she was called Del for short, it means pretty/lovely in Welsh
Ophelia - I love, Shakespearian! Ophelia Jane sounds good
Estella - I quite like and I love the nn Stella
Cora - I really like and think Cora Jane is ok
Miranda - I like and a character from my favourite Shakepeare play. Miranda Jane sounds really good

Another Shakespearian name which is one of my favourites ever is Cordelia, which could be shortened to Cora. Cordelia Jane sounds fab.

Another literary name and one of my favourites is Esmarelda, which is the name of a very strong female charater of Pratchett's. Esmarelda Jane also sounds fab [hwink]

I really like Jane btw, classic, not too girly, strong sounding name and some great ladies including one of my favourite authors were called this [hsmile]

muffinino82 · 27/10/2011 12:03

When I say Esmarelda, I do of course mean Esmerelda. Brain fart [hblush] Esme is a great nn [hgrin]

I like the above suggestion of Delphina with Delphie as a nn, too

Jezabelle · 27/10/2011 13:32

Lorellei
Penelope
Cecelia nn Cece (pronounced See-see)
I still love Delphina the best but am entirely bias as it's my gorgeous niece's name. Never heard of another.

ilianora · 27/10/2011 13:59

All of these names are beautiful! Exactly the kind of thing I would go for myself if I werent having a boy.

Tallulah - Have a friend who shortens her name to 'talli' or 'lula' which i love
Delilah - beautiful my favourite from this list
Ophelia - slightly more unusual/pronounciation problems from other kids?
Estella - lovely
Cora - very nice, sounds very elegant
Miranda - lovely but can imagine on an adult more than a child

:)

Kaekae · 29/10/2011 23:43

I used to love Tallulah but then it become too celeb.
I really like Delilah, I wouldn't worry about the song, none of her friends/school friends would have even heard of the Tom Jones song!
The only thing that does put me off is the fact that Rod Stewart's daughter has just had a baby and named her Delilah....so could be another name that becomes rather celeb.

Not keen on the rest of your list. Smile

Italiangreyhound · 30/10/2011 00:43

Tallulah - quite unusual, goes well with Jane, nice nickname TJ or Tally!
Delilah - like it, not sure young people will know the Tom Jones song.
Ophelia - no, not my choice
Estella - Lovely, pretty
Cora - Lovely, simple
Miranda - not my favourite name.

Congratulations.

geminigirl · 30/10/2011 01:34

I like Cora and Estella. [hsmile]

ChippingInAutumnLover · 30/10/2011 01:27

Tallulah - Bugsy song & stripper
Delilah - Tom Jones song
Ophelia - Far too pretentious
Estella - Beer (Estrella)
Cora - Cora Jane (you don't watch Rugby then?? All Black, you know, the team that won the WORLD CUP a fortnight ago, one of the top players Cory Jane - sound much the same when you say it, it will be taken as a tribute!!)
Miranda - One of the UK's top female comedians ATM - do you really want to saddle her with that??

nooka · 30/10/2011 01:57

I don't like Tallulah, Delilah or Ophelia (the first two to me are a bit comedy/try hard and the third seems a bit drippy), and I'm not very keen on Cora. I do like Miranda and also Estella, although I prefer Estelle.

mathanxiety · 30/10/2011 05:47

I like Estelle and Miranda.
Estella is a bit too much imo, but Stella is lovely and Estelle too.

Tallulah and Delilah are nice too -- Lila is a nice nn.
I think a Tallulah would need a big personality to carry it off properly though.

Cora reminds me of being back in school in Dublin in the 70s and 80s when half my middle aged teachers bore this name.

Suggestions:
Keziah Jane
Lucy Jane
Serena Jane
Eliza Jane
Susannah Jane
Laura Jane
Celia Jane
Cecelia Jane
Daphne Jane

mathanxiety · 30/10/2011 05:51

Sorry, Ophelia got lost in the shuffle -- dislike, lends itself to all sorts of 'feel ya' jokes.

HappyCamel · 30/10/2011 19:50

Miranda ad Cora are nice.

I'm not sure Tallulah would suit a girl who is shy or who wants a serious high paying job. There shouldn't be name snobbery when sifting CVs but I see a lot of it when we're recruiting at work.
