Wilbur or Caspar???

Hi Ladies

We had a baby boy on Monday (10th) and we've managed to narrow it down to two names...Wilbur or Caspar. I think that I prefer Caspar, DH prefers Wilbur. DH wouldn't be as happy to go with Caspar as I would with Wilbur but it's still in the balance.

Wilbur has abbreviation options, Wil or Burt which Caspar doesn't have. I just have the feeling that if/when I meet someone who's called their newborn DS Caspar I will feel slightly jealous.

WWYD???

I prefer Casper. Wil is too close to Willy and Burt is just awful imo, sorry. Congratulations, by the way!

Caspar

MrsOzz · 16/10/2011 21:50

Casper because Wilbur will inevitably become 'Will' to his peers which them lumps him together with all the other Wills/Williams.

And I love Casper. And Jasper.

faverolles · 16/10/2011 21:53

Caspar. Lovely name.
I love Wilbur too, but it always reminds me of Charlottes Web, sorry!
Congratulations :)

hulabula · 16/10/2011 21:55

Congratulations.

I think you need to find a name you BOTH love, sorry.

babybumblebeee · 16/10/2011 23:15

I love love love Casper!

lollystix · 16/10/2011 23:28

Casper is lovely. Wilbur ok but I just think of pigs for some reason.

meaniebrown · 17/10/2011 05:26

Caspar by a mile. Cass is a possible nn-- I knew one in middle school.

SolarPrestigeAGammon · 17/10/2011 06:01

Oh no...not Wilbur!

scarlettlips · 17/10/2011 09:02

Congratulations!

I like Caspar as it just that bit different, I haven't met one but lots of Will's and Bert's about at the moment.

I think you need to find a name you both love, what about Jasper?

CandiceMariePratt · 17/10/2011 09:16

Wilbur

Jojay · 17/10/2011 09:22

Caspar is much nicer. I have a Jasper Smile

MorallyBankrupt · 17/10/2011 14:27

Caspar, easily,

phlossie · 17/10/2011 14:31

Wilbur is what we used to call my little brothers willy! I used to have a major crush on a boy called Caspar Coole. So Caspar wins, hands down! Also think Cass as an nn is great!

paddypoopants · 17/10/2011 14:33

Caspar is good - Wilbur is really not.

mopsyflopsy · 17/10/2011 14:34

Congratulations, but I do think you need to choose anothe altogether, one that your dh AND you love.

DawnOfTheDeementedDead · 17/10/2011 14:35

Wilbur's a pig and Caspar's a ghost. Sorry.

LetThereBeRock · 17/10/2011 15:20

Caspar definitely Caspar. It's a lovely name. Wilbur is dreadful.

AnotherMuesliPleaseBarman · 17/10/2011 16:37

Definitely Caspar! I have one and have never regretted it. :)

Shutupanddrive · 17/10/2011 18:56

Neither sorry, have you decided yet?

Toobluntforboss · 17/10/2011 18:58

Congratulations but I'm afraid I'm with Shutupandrive - not that that matters if you both love a name as you'll never please everyone!

noseybitch · 17/10/2011 19:01

Vote for Wilbur here. And congratulations!!!

10isenough · 18/10/2011 11:46

Thanks v much....interesting to gather opinion.

We haven't decided yet but yes, I think its got to be between the two. We're trying out George today and it just doesn't sound right. A couple or the names I loved such a Reuben don't feel right now that he's arrived and is here in front of us. Also, I'm a little worried about going back to the drawing board as we did this with dd2 after the birth and picked a name which just did not suite. After all we are looking at about 6 months of name narrowing down already!

Thanks everyone, very helpful. Can't wait to get my birth announcement cards out!

Congratulations. I prefer Wilbur. I think it's a stronger name and will suit a man as well as a boy. I think Caspar is cute for a child, but won't suit a grown man.

birdofthenorth · 18/10/2011 13:37

Congratulations!

I LOVE Wilbur nn Will or Bert/Bertie... go for it!

I love Willoughby too, in case that's any help.
